I have a 10-12 year old Sears white refrigerator in the kitchen. The freezer temp is about 15 degrees, the fridge is 48-52 degrees. I turned the knob for the fridge all the way down a couple of days ago, but no change. It makes ice, the ice cream is frozen, but easy to scoop out and the margarine in the fridge is very soft. There is a fan in the freezer that is blowing all the time, is there supposed to be a fan in the fridge blowing too? Why is my fridge not very cold? |

The fan in the freezer blows cold air down into the fridge. It's most likely low on refrigerant. Look on the compressor or inside the cabinet for a label that says what refrigerant it has, not sure about one that old, but if it's 134a you can get that at wally world and put it in yourself.
But like above, make sure the cond coil is clean and has ample air supply. |

I took the cleaning the coils advice.... I must have pulled out 15 pounds of ghost turds and vacuumed up another 5 lbs. I took off the cardboard baffles and there's a fan blowing on the condenser underneath that was just covered in ghost turds. Legionaries disease or some other science fair project gone wrong was growing in the water tray, too. It was nasty. Wish I would have had an air compressor handy, they don't make it easy to get to the coils to clean the dust and dirt from them. Just finished cleaning the dirt, so don't know if that is why my fridge wasn't keeping as cold as it should. |
