Am I the only grammar Nazi here and in real life that gets annoyed when people refer to .22 as 22's or .22s? Its not like you fucking call 5.56 cartridges .5.56s or .45 cartridges .45s! Stop sounding like fucking ignoramuses referring to a single concept in the plural and call it like you would call any other calibers, there is no fucking s on the end of it and it makes you look like the idiotic fudd hillbilly at my local Walmart counter!

Use it in a sentence because the only time I pluralize 22 is when I would also pluralize 223.

But what about when you are speaking of the number of rifles you have in that caliber?  For instance, I have two .45s and five .22s.

Then, what about when I am talking about a particular part that belongs to a particular weapon.  An example would be "my Ruger .22's barrel is oversize.

Then you must refer to them as "two forty-five-caliber rifles", or "five twenty-two-caliber rifles", perhaps further specifying the exact type.  Clearly, that is the only acceptable way, as trying to simplify is vulgar.

I have 22s on my whip, yo!

I do agree, however, that you should never use an apostrophe when pluralizing.  That isn't what it is for.

You apostrophized a plural, for one thing.

22's are hard to find, they used to have 22's on sale for cheap, you used to be able buy a 500 round box of 22's for under 15 bucks, now you can't even get the stinkin Blazer 22's anymore, anybody know if the ammo companies are even making 22's anymore?

The plural of .22 is .44 damn it.
