Can you deep fry other things besides turkey?  Anybody tried doing a chicken, quail, dove, etc?  I don't really want to buy something like that if I'm only going to use it once or twice a year.  Not only that, but that oil is freakin' expensive, so I'd rather be able to cook a few things in one or two days.

Thanks,
Chimborazo

Yes, you can do other things.  I think they come with a recipe book.  You might talk to someone who has one to be sure.

I have done chickens. They are very good. Do them just as you would the Turkey. Don't forget to try turkey breasts as well. Less meat to finish off. Another thing to try when you do a bird, fry biscuits. Take canned biscuits & cut them in 1/4 or 1/2 pieces. Drop them in the oil. You have to flip / turn them as you go so they cook evenly. Otherwise they will just float on 1 side. Don't forget to do fries or cheese sticks while the oil is hot. You will find all kinds of things to have with the poultry.

Yeah you can deep fry any bird you want. But also remember that you can also use that humungas pot to do a CRAB BOIL ala CAJUN MAN!!:

Potatoes, Corn, Chicken, Andouille, Shrimp, Crab, Lobster, Clams, Crawdads.

Dump on paper covered table and eat until you explode. Some very good eating.

At a party last weekend we deep fried a big package of chicken wings, then shook them up in a big ziplock with Tabasco and spices to make some great, home made hotwings.

Later we deep fried a couple of chickens for dinner. Sprinkled them down with spices after they were done. The chicken was tender and not oily on the inside.

Deep fryers are great if your entertaining a bunch of guests for a game. Especially if you don't want to make a big mess in the kitchen.

and BE CAREFUL with it...a neighbor put too much oil in his, it overflowed splashed on his deck caught fire...well you get the pix.

It's also a pretty expensive way to cook, all that oil ain't cheap.

Deep fried potatoes and sweet potatoes, cut into thin wedges before frying.  Hit 'em with some kosher salt or sea salt, are pretty tasty.  Make a nice treat when you do your turkey or chicken or whatever else you care to throw in.

Don't laugh....

Take a can of Spam, slice into 1/4" thick slices and deep fry until somewhat crispy on the outside. I guarantee it's delicious.

My stepfather deep fried some pork chops last Thanksgiving. They turned out pretty good. Just rub them down with dry spices and let them sit for a couple hours before you do it.
