.....why would someone prefer a folding 4 foot gate over a non folding one? Besides being more aerodynamic.

Less drag(wind resistance) if you do long haul.
Doesn't matter much around town.

Also folding are more heavier duty I have seen,

They are much easier to back up empty if they have the gate.
