A challenger appears...

Well they're not going to build tools to completely build every AR part from scratch, not now.

Which means they're going to subcontract everything out (which is what half the AR makers of today already do), which means that every component is going to be made by an existing manufacturer, shipped to Springfield and assembled by them.

I'd rather not pay for a Mega AR with a 30% markup for the Springfield rollmark.

They should have made one years ago

To much competition from the CMP I would imagine.

I have a custom made Springfield Garand chambered in .308 I bought off a buddy who was having money problems. He paid like 3 grand for it.

They only make guns in real calibers.

Nice.

Seriously, they RULE their niche.  Why make girly-man guns that won't penetrate a cinderblock wall, when they already have the market cornered on guns for real men?

I'd love to see that, except they would probably price it higher than I'd be willing to pay.

They made them ten years ago with Lithgow receivers.  Cost about a grand then.

Their sister company did in the early/mid 80's. I think they were Sendra or PWA lowers stamped Rock Island Armory. I think think they were all A1 style, at least all the ones I ever saw were.
