The scenery in Baltimore can change dramatically from one block to the next. I took a wrong turn there once. It was after dusk in December. One block had beautifully maintained 1890s row houses, the next had the same row houses but everything was run down. There were broken windows, street lights out, and young males shouting at me. I was driving a rented GMC Jimmy. I did an Emergency Bat Turn and got the hell out of there. |

Drive through most inner cities and you'll find much of the same. Teener gets a base hit. Parts are nice, parts suck, much of it is just dirty city like any other. As a voice of dissent, I'm going to say that I actually like Baltimore. At least, as far as the city's blue collar roots are concerned. I like Philly, too. The two cities are actually very similar in many ways. Baltimore has a fine history of shipyards, steelyards, brewing, fishing, manufacturing... 50+ years ago, it was a vibrant city full of hard-working Americans. Parts of it are still great. As a reserve Naval officer in the SSO program, I'm on the sealift ships all the time. There's good people and good work there. Yeah, it's dirty. It's a fuckin' port, what were you expecting? And there is culture there. Shit, BronyCON in August, eh? Who's going?! ... Nobody?
Anyhow, I just can't blame the city for what the Democrats did to it. |

Get around more, you'll see it all over the country. North Philly, Camden, South St Pete, Detroit, Miami, Houston, Cinci, Oakland. City size doesn't matter. Wilmington DE has a few blocks that look like Liberia after 5 years of war. They all have one thing in common: 100% entitlement population. Those areas are funded by the taxes of the areas around them. There is no shame in crime in those areas, the only shame I've ever noticed is a disdain for those who try to play straight, better themselves and get out of the system. It's disgusting.

I lived at Lexington & MLK, worked at Shock Trauma, Union Memorial, and got to do free care at a West Baltimore clinic. I also went into some of the most burned-out crack neighborhoods with a crazy primary care doc who still believed in doing house calls.
It was a zoo at times. |

Drive through most inner cities and you'll find much of the same. Bullshit. I've never had a policeman put his hand on his gun in another city when I was lost and wanted directions, only Baltimore so far. How often do you get lost? A healthy dose of paranoia probably helps you stay alive when you're a cop. |

Anyhow, I just can't blame the city for what the Democrats did to it. I can. Baltimore uses it's political machine to run the state government like its own personal welfare agency. They suck money out of all the other counties in the sate, and the Federal government, and there has been ZERO improvement there in 20 years except for little pockets of gentrification and tourism. Obama was there today for a speech; he uses it as a backdrop frequently because it's a textbook example of his message: "Vote for us and we'll give you free shit." Fuck Baltimore AND their citizens. |

I've been to Atlanta and Las Vegas. I hate Atlanta, I got a warning ticket there, but the cop wasn't a dickhead about it. I've been to lots of southern major cities. The places you're naming I have no reason to go see. |
