Well yeah, if you fall asleep at the wheel, you don't want to have nightmares. Important shit, that. 
That being said, I really hate wannabes. 
ETA: As for the rest of your post, re: conditions on the rez, that's what REALLY disgusts me about the people who "want to be" Indians - they want all the good, without having to deal with any of the bad.
