Havent seen the movie yet. Just finished the book. Thought it was pretty good. What are the chances the book is better than the movie? |

Before watching the movie... 100% After watching the movie... 90% (haven't read it, it just seems to generally be that way) ETA read the question backwards, sorry. |

Books are WAY better than the movie.
Quoted:
The first book was great. The movie sucked comparatively in my mind. It had Jennifer Lawrence though, which is a huge plus. The second and third books were really awful IMO. And this as well. I wouldn't say they are "awful" but not near as good as the first. |
OK.. watched the movie last night on Netflix and there are a lot of WTF?? moments. In the book, When Rue was killed, District 11 sent Katniss bread right? In the movie, District 11 rioted. Things that make you go "hmmmm" I give the movie a 4/10 Maybe they should have had Peter Jackson direct it. |
|
Did you read them all?
It got derp in the second and third book. It is a rip off of a lot of other stories. This movie is exactly the same but better and came out in 2000. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266308/?ref_=sr_1 The movie sucks. |
|
Quoted:
The book was decent, but the whole time I was thinking, "This is only a Young Adults/Children's book because the author isn't a good enough writer to write for adults." What I thought. The story itself is for an older generation and the politics in the 3rd book is way over the heads of younger folk. The writing is for 10 year old's. |

The first book was great. <SNIP> The second and third books were really awful IMO. This is what I keep hearing. I have the first one on my iPad, haven't read it. Is it worth reading if I don't intend on reading the others? (I mean, it doesn't end in a cliffhanger or anything, does it?) |
| Movie isn't bad at all. You will never get the "depth" of the characters from a movie like you would the book. You are in their heads after all. There is no way they could get Katniss down in the movie. There was a LOT of stuff going on in her head, especially after the first book. |

| Well, you naysayers can all jump on the this movie is better than that one, but any story that captures the youth's attention and makes them question government control is a good one in my book. Seems like the majority of things our kids like or are fed has to do with compliance and conformity. Is Battle Royale on Netflix? |

I have had people say they were "good if you get the message" and many say they are "derp". Like movies, I rather take them on myself and make my own judgement. I am intrigued enough to read the second and third. |

First book 5/10 (movie 4/10)
Second book 4/10 Third book 3/10 Mediocre teen-angel 4th grade romance that's been brilliantly marketed. Author had a hint of an interesting concept but lacked the talent to bring it to life. Story gets progressively weaker and more amateurishly written as the series goes on. Features a "strong and independent" heroine who is only strong and independent because the author tells us she is; in action she's stereotypical teen angst that's hopelessly dependent on everyone around her. A time killer if you're a captive audience, otherwise a total waste of time. Beware fanbois. Makes "Twilight" look well written by comparison. |

Coincidentally, I just read the book and watched the movie this past week. My son just got into the series, and I decided to check it out. I was very pleasantly surprised at how good the book was. As usual, the movie was a pale, shadow of the book, but not a bad adaptation. I don't think I would have gotten nearly as much out of the movie as I did if I hadn't read the book first. |

Adults who talk about The Hunger Games remind me of the adults who brag about having read all the Harry Potter books.
Usually, the only other complete books they've read are The Catcher in the Rye and To Kill a Mockingbird or one of the other ones that everyone had to read in high school. |

And some people are just voracious readers... |
