Chalk Another One Up!

Today I was just laid off this morning at about 10:00 AM, and was given the option to work out the remainder of the day for $$ or leave to begin the job search.  Rather than beginning, I decided to get the extra $$, then tonight I will head around to the local gun shops, and the local shooting ranges to see if I can get a job doing something I love.  There is an availability at my favorite gunshop/range, but I don't know if they'll hire me.

I did get some GREAT references from co-workers, and supervisors since I was WELL worth the money, but UPPER MGMT who knows nothing about the business, and the status of things here thought it would be better to get rid of one of their most productive.  According to everyone who knew about it before me, they assure that it was because the new company budget didn't allow enough $$ for some people to continue employment, so there soon will be a couple more layoffs for others, I was the first to know.

I already have my application in at other places, and I hope to get a firearm related job that I enjoy.  Wish me luck in my future job search.  I will continue to pray that good things come to those of us who are unemployed.

[:-(]

Sincerely Bummed Out,

Good Luck, sir!

The last that I heard the unemployment rate in MN is still less than the national, about 4.3% vs 5.7%.

wow, they actually asked if you wanted to stay till the end of the work day?
that's a bit unorthdox.
I feel for you as I was laid off too and it caught me like a sucker punch.
No options for a cut in pay or hrs or nothing.
This was the first time I was ever laid off from a job, that's what hurts I think.
My thoughts are also with You and Others in this time need.
Good luck everyone

Was you in the union?  I get laid off like 6 times a year.  Union work sucks, sure you might get paid a little more an hour but at the end of the year non union work pays more cause you work all year.  If it wasnt for free schooling id be non union.  So anyway dont join the union unless you like working 6 to 9 months a year.

Yeah, I thought that was pretty strange too!  But these people are usually really nice.

I feel for you as I was laid off too and it caught me like a sucker punch.

I DEFINITELY can agree with you on that one!  What a surprise.  Even the regional MGR said that it was one of the dumbest things ever, since I'm VERY productive, and in 1 day I can do about 3 days worth of their "Veteran" employees becuase of my typing speed.

No options for a cut in pay or hrs or nothing.

That's one of the REALLY suck-ass things, I was already paid VERY low for the job, and this sucks as well.

This was the first time I was ever laid off from a job, that's what hurts I think.

That's certainly the only reason this feels like such a bummer.  Being "Let-Go" AKA Laid Off really sucks, and hopefully I don't have to deal with it again.  Things look a bit promising with the possibility of another job though.  And I got 4 great references from superiors who really realized what I could (and did) do for the company.

Good luck everyone

I cannot stress this enough.  I hope that all goes VERY well for all of us unemployed people who are searching for jobs.  God Help Us.

I also forgot to add that when some people found out about my layoff a couple said: "iNuhBaDNayburhood, You're not going to come in here on monday with your machine gun & kill all of us, are you?"

And before I knew I was laid off, one said, "iNuhBaDNayburhood, I haven't seen you in a while, have you flown down to MD lately?"

This is due to the fact that one employee saw me inspecting an Olyarms Kit before signing it off as being in "Good Condition," upon receipt.  Then rumors flew around the company that my POST-BAN SPORT UTILITY RIFLE is either an ASSAULT RIFLE or a MACHINEGUN!

For weeks I had to deal with people saying, "iNuhBad, is it true that you shipped a machinegun to work in a box of parts?"

Ignorant Stupid Liberals have a tendency to piss me off, but I'm a VERY peaceful, patient, and loving individual.  Oh well.

Depends on what Union.  I used to belong to the UAW.  They negotiated great pay and great benefits and if we were laid-off we received 80% pay.  The best part is the union negotiated benefits paid for my Master Degree in Quality.  I left my union job years ago, now I negotiate my own deals.

iNuhBaDNayburhood, what type of work are you qualified for?

Something "spooky" is going on.......

All I hear about is people loosing their jobs.

My brother is a Corporate VP of Engineering and the most dedicated guy on the planet.
Guess what? He got canned last Monday.

This ship is SINKING people.

This economy is not going to recover.

Now you know why dubya has been pushing so hard for a war with iraq. It will shift the focus away from the failing economy and the federal reserve printing money like there is no tomorrow- which there may not be.

Ahh...  The wonders of being inebriated with 3 beers...  I love being a light-weight.

Well, I'm not a part of any union.  I do mainly office work, clerical, and computer work (Web Prog., Database Conversions, Data Entry).  I'm looking into getting a job at local gunshops/ranges.

Can't stand union style work for the BS you'd have to put up with as stated above.  Also, I'm a college student at the current time, so $$ is REALLY thin.

You should see if DPMS or Federal Arms or Federal Ammunition could use you...

Just a note about unemployment stats-

Our nationwide unemployment rate (last quoted as around 6%?) is likely much higher; closer to that of Germany which is about 11%.

Apparently the stats are gathered from the state unemployment agencies.  Therefore those that have collected all of their unemployment insurance, or those who haven't registered, are not being represented in the unemployment stats.    Plus the lower numbers look good for the politicians who are trying to avert attention from the economy, so its not like they'd go to a lot of trouble getting an accurate stat just so everyone can see whats really going on.

I wish the best of luck to all of you who have been laid off.

But TUMOR...this economy won't recover?  Give me a break, you sound as emotional as the people trying to take our guns.

You are seeing a few people getting laid off so the economy is done for?  Guess what--I haven't heard of anyone getting laid off.  No reports of that happening from family, from friends, etc.  Nothing.  A few people here, and that's it.  My dad is working for a small hardware/software engineering company which is doing much better now than it was two years ago.  Just because a few industries are having trouble doesn't mean it's the end of the world.  The current economic situation is similar to that of the early nineties, not the early thirties (the great depression, for those of you who failed history class).  I am convinced that most our economic woes (are there any?) are completely due to the emotion of sheeple.

inuhbad...YOU my friend have a GOOD atitude! I predict you will not be unemployed too long. What kind of work do you do?

The best to ya!
