Uh. You may want a little more dedication and purpose besides that if you're going to make it.
How's your french?

One of the Japanese guys I worked with in Japan joined the Legion but he deserted.

Get this book.

It's very informative and will basically give you a solid perspective that is actually very balanced.

Edit:  I've got a ton of books I probably need to get rid of anyway.  OP, PM me your address and I'll send it to you free of charge.  Just "pay it forward" to someone else somehow.

My father told me that soldiering can frequently long  boring drudgery.  And he was infantry.

What do u mean dedication? I'm 34, I missed my opportunity serving and the economy is still weak. I have always strived for something unique. I feel this is it,....as far as my french...sucks, but fluent in Spanish pretty good!

I don't think they are going to bother with a 34yo.

I read the above book, good book, probably a touch dated by now.

Its a rough life, you have to be determined.  They are an Elite combat unit with extreme fighting skill and will fight to the death.  Do not joint the Legion for just something to do.

You must also be fluent in French period.  All verbal and written instruction is in French.

Training is difficult and punishment is also very brutal.  Just remember the Legion goes first everywhere.

I was in the Marines at 18 and I coudn't imagine doing that again at 36 (current age), let alone 34.  I'm sure the legion is much, much harder.  You had better be in absolute peak physical condition to do it at 34.

You didn't even do any research on our own forces before deciding you'll just spring for the FFL instead?

You think our military is going to be more restrictive age-wise than the FFL?

Trained with the FFL for a week or so in North Africa...

Didn't get a whole lot of insight on them, but I can tell you they are a diverse, yet incredibly tight-knit group. Discipline was incredibly high, yet they were allowed to do what they needed to adapt to their surroundings. I can tell you they recieve verry little in the way of material and support. They have only a couple of light infantry units and even fewer support units. Their HQ was basically a bombed out cinder-block building. They hunted/fished for their daily food as they didn't have any facilities or recieve any rations.

My over-all impression was that they were some hard dudes, not to be messed with.

They did try to get us to defect, promising new identities and French citizenship. But we declined, citing the shitty French cigarettes

Saying the FFL is much ,inch harder is putting it lightly.  I think they actually beat their recruits, but their training is pretty secret and they don't let too many from the public see into it, but there was a documentary type show got a peak a few years ago.  Those recruits went through some abuse.
