Received my ASUS TF300 last night and threw it on the charger overnight. Just finished setting it up and then clicked on the firmware update. Shut down screen came on and booted over to the screen with the big android robot and progres bar at the bottom. Download finished, but the switched to the ASUS titled intro/startup screen where it is frozen now, Tried turning it off manually, but a few seconds later the screen comes back on. What should I do? This is also my first dip into the tablet scene too. Thanks
Pretty sure I'm fucked. Held power on for 20seconds. Would still go off for a second then come back on. Did a cold restart. When it would power off for a second I would hold the vol down and power and get the boot menu. Cold linux restart didn't do anything. Did a data wipe the same way and got the dead droid with the red triangle over him, them back to the Asus screen after a few minutes. I don't think there's anything else to do. SHIT!!!
That sucks...but let me share my similar story. I bought an ASUS TF101 'bout a year and a half ago, and I had a very similar problem as yours after an update. I had to let the battery completely drain, then re-charge and I was able to get in and use the tablet. However, bad things continued to happen. It'd go to sleep after I used it, and then I wouldn't be able to get back in. Nothing was responsive. I'd have to let the battery drain each time this happened, and then I could use it for maybe a day. I sent it in over and over and over again to the ASUS service department, but they claimed to never be able to re-produce the problem. I found that hard to believe as about all I had to do was let it go to sleep and let it sit for a few hours and it was locked up hard. Eventually, after plenty of the Googles, I did two things. 1) I rooted the device and installed a custom ROM. 2) I installed a nifty little app called WakeLocker that kept the wifi up and active, even though most of the rest of the system would still go to sleep. I can't say I know a lot about your particular ASUS tablet, but I'd venture a guess many of their ASUS apps are similar across all hardware and are likely at fault. The internet rumor that led me down the path that I took was that there is something hosed up in how they put their tablets to sleep. fyi: their service department was friendly and conscientious, but they couldn't do jack squat to resolve my problem. I'm very happy with it now, even though it is showing its age. Good luck!
