I know several people on expired student visas. You probably do, if you've spent anytime on a college campus. The students usually don't worry about them until they have to re-enter the US.

Visas have to be renewed outside of the US -- usually at the US embassy in their home country.

I've never understood why they can't be renewed here, within the US at a State Dept. office. It seems that would allow the state department to better keep track of visas and their holders.

Wo do otherwise intelligent, educated people expect that government, regardless of level or importance, will run any differently than the post office or DMV?

... and if congress and Obama give Amnesty to the illegals I see no reason why people on student visas, work visas, and tourist visas should ever leave.

Whole thing is broken and our twisted politicians are ignoring what the american people want, which is to enforce our borders and law. These rejects we have in Washington are offering a fix that is only going to double down on the broken b/c it is going to give instant legal status to all the law breakers with the hopes of a vote in the end if not citizenship.

These students are allowed to stay if they can find a job (and for that reason only). Other than that GTFO; you knew the rules.

Our system is the most generous in the world bar none. It's broken BECAUSE we are the most generous.

Legalizing law breakers will only encourage more lawbreaking (GREEN LIGHT) and 1/4 of them will go on government programs immediately like the 80's amnesty.
