Who has one? are they hard to maintain? what do I need for two baby dragons? Help me know so I don't screw it up later. My local PetSmart has a complete 20 gallon bearded dragon terrarium on clearance. would this be okay for a couple months until I can piece together a bigger setup?

go to www.ssnakess.com and read.  Read a lot.  There is a forum on there dedicated to the dragons I believe.

Personally, I'd get snakes as they are much easier to take care of.

My 5yo thinks all snakes should die by LOTS and LOTS of fire.  Preferably nuked from orbit.

I have no idea where he gets that from.

Girl I know has one.  It eats crickets and greens.  She brings it around town and gets a lot of attention.

20 gallons would be fine for now. Be sure you get a UVB light for them.

They shed a lot as they grow. Be sure all of the shedding comes off, especially around their eyes. They can get a nasty infection from skin that clings. A large dish of water helps, they like to sit in it to soften the dried skin.

Don't use sand for the substrate, it's impossible to keep clean. Use something like ceramic tile.

I love my little guy

I had a few, they are great.  I gave my last one to a school classroom when I moved.   Really easy to raise.  Crickets when little and they stay pretty happy.   Though they do hit a "pissy"  stage about 6 months in and the bite a bit.   But it's not too bad.     Just keep picking it up.   Got to the point where I would put her on a leash and she would chill at the pool with me.

They make bearded dragon pellets now and she loved them.    Makes it really easy.

You can feed them pinkies.   I gave mine a mouse mouse.   The carnage was too much for the wife to bear, so I would shy away from that.

Seventeen76 has one, it's in his profile pic.

Here's mine, my buddy Eugene. (Named so... for obvious reasons..)

Took this the other day, perfect timing, awesome pic!

He looks super hungry in that pic, he's just stretched out, I give him salad and crickets everyday.

Far more difficult to care for the bearded clam.

They grow quickly but max size isn't unmanageable

They are low maintenance- lower than snakes, monitors, or other reptiles IMO

Generally good temperament, nice personality.

Eat both greens and crickets

Got one for my kids, and they love it. Even my wife, who hated my monitors, loves it.

Male/female and female/female pairs ok, paired males will fight IIRC.

1. Like any animal, they poop. You have to clean it up. If you don't, it'll stink.
2. Crickets at my local pet store $0.10 (you can get them cheaper than that). An adult beardie needs about 7-10 crickets a day, plus some salad. That's no where near $25/week even for two.
3. Pellets are hit or miss. Mine doesn't like them either.
