| Has anyone here ever had ATF contact you about how frequently you are purchasing firearms? I was contacted about this today by the local ATF field office with the implication that they believe I might be conducting business in selling firearms w/ out a FFL. This is not the case and I'm not worried about them finding anything because there is nothing to find, I'm just curious how often they consider suspicious. (By the way, on average I purchase on firearm once every two to three weeks.) |

Yes I have been contacted by the BATF-E. It was less than 24hrs after helping a member from this board build a totally legal semi-ban compliant AK47(coincidence probably not). They had pulled my 4477 from my local dealer and wanted to see why I "was building firearms".
Now mind you, I was Deputy Sheriff at the time. I was interviewed at are station. (which I was happy to do) and was harrssed by them for over a month. I had to go as far as have my lawyer contact their field office. I now work as a Federal Police officer and have to say that their unprofessional tactics/and attitude give police a BAD name. |

I may be wrong, but I believe you have to report multiple firearm purchases to the ATF. Only when it's more than one handgun on the same day. And it's more of an issue with the border states.

One to the ATF, 2nd one to the Chief of Police for that area and the 3rd one stapled to the 4473 pertaining to that purchase.

In a way yes....Not in the way it worked with you.
I applied for a FFL and during the course of my interview they asked me about one particular large purchase that had been reported to them by the dealer I bought them from. I showed him the guns to prove I hadn't sold them, and that was that. I later sold them after having an approved FFL. I don't know if they would have came and asked if I hadn't applied for an FFL. I suspect that they would have probably came at some point. |

Not sure about handguns but the multiple long gun form is only required in border states and if you have bought more than 1 semi auto rifle above .22 caliber. 5.56 must be reported. |

Would be interesting to know if they have that info. Not really. They could easily get it by going to his dealer and pulling the records. |
