Do you practice clearing the house?

The other day there was a very loud noise downstairs that woke my wife up. She woke me up and asked me to go check it out. I grabbed my .40 S&W and my flashlight off the night stand and cleared the house. My wife then asked me a series of questions and I told her that I practice while the house is empty. She just laughed at me.

Now it's your turn. What about you, do you practice clearing the house in case it happens?

No.

Open floor plan in my house.  If there's someone in it, they're DRT. Not much place to hide.

I don't but I know from past threads that a lot of guys do. I probably should I guess. I can easily see the entrances pretty quickly, I would hear a window getting broken and my dogs would be freaking the fuck out if anyone was actually in the house.

Been awhile.

No, I just grab the shotgun and fire two blasts off the balcony.

I shoot straight through the front door.

I just cycle the action 3-4 times so they know I mean business and go back to sleep.

I picture how I would in my head but don't really practice.

Nope.  I don't set up sandbag positions in the foyer either.

Yeah, when my mom is not home. I wouldn't want to frighten her.

Nope, I just know how to get to my gun locker in the pitch dark.  So the Glock 27 on the bedside table turns into a 12-gauge with OO Buckshot and slugs.  With a light.

Never have I practiced, but cleared it 2 times for clunks in the night.

Yes but I only have 3 rooms on one floor so fairly easy.

Yes. I even rearranged some furniture to eliminate a blind spot. One advantage of bachelorism.

Years ago I did but where I live now is much smaller.

Took classes (AMIS) and made adjustments.

Without proper education you can make a lot of errors.

I do, actually. Usually I'm starting from the master bedroom, and working my way downstairs. I figure that if this were the real thing, I'd most likely be in bed and grabbing for the nightstand pistol.

No.  We practice going into the walk-in closet, obtaining the piece and old cell phone and simulating the 911 call.

With six dogs, both outside and inside, it's highly doubtful anyone will sneek up on us.
