I can't remember from back in the day. Maybe it was Poltergeist that seems about right.  I can tell you now though I refuse to watch The Fourth Kind ever again. That shit just freaks me out. Anything that has semi realistic alien abduction just keeps me up at night.

Oh, going to watch Evil Dead here in an hour. I've heard its gory, not scary but still looks good nonetheless.

Without reading the other replies yet, I will have to say that it was definitely "Children of the Corn". Still cringe at the sound of those biblical names.

Help me out here! I would have been 5 years old or so... There was a movie on TV late at night in the late '70s or early '80s where this guy was chasing a woman through the desert or something... at the beginning of the movie he was shaving (it didn't show his face) and he said "Good Morning" in a scariest damn voice I'd ever heard. I guess he was using one of those voice modulators / larynx amplifiers. I think I ran to my room and hid.

It wasn't Duel - he was chasing or trying to capture a woman.

The memory of that voice still gives me the willies.

Speaking of Duel, that movie got a ton of late night play, during the 80s. It seems like it was always on when I stayed up late. I would be sweating by the movie's end, very intense.

The Empire Strikes Back

I was 3 years old. My parents took me when it came out, they also took me to see Star Wars when i was one, but I dont remember that one of course. But Mom told me i looked like Luke Skywalker, and it made me have this nightmare about Vader. Most vivid dream i have ever had, and i can relive it in detail on a whim.

Dark house on the second story. Was raining out. Neighbors had a huge tree that would blow the leaves up against the window.
Freaked out as hell.

And its not like I'm scared of clowns either. Don't bother be.

The Birds, outdoor theater (seats, not a drive-in) in Iran.  I was 6 years old and went with my two older brothers, 14 and 12.  I was O.K. until the eyes pecked out scene.  The 14yo got a whoopin for that one.

"He wants you too Malachi!        He wants you too...."

My wife cannot watch that movie. It still freaks her out. I taught my youngest son to say "Malachi" when he was first learning to talk. She was not amused.

I always liked that one. I just closed my eyes during the "scary" parts.

My first movie that gave me nightmares was MaryLou, Prom Night 2. I couldn't even watch it all the way through and slept with teddy bears and head under covers for a looooong time.

Holy carp, I forgot about Fire in the Sky.

I was in elementary school when I saw it, and that abduction scene led to many nights of sleeping with the light on.

"Son of Blob"

Saw it at Summer Day Camp when I was 4 or 5. Scared the crap out of me. I had a red shag rug in my room at the time ( It was 1975 or 1976 ) and I straight up refused to step foot in the room with that carpet in there. Parentals realized I was serious when I took the ass beating and STILL wouldn't go in my room.

To this day, almost 40 years later, I still have a few nightmares each year about getting consumed by what is essentially a big cherry jello mold

I remembered another one but cant recall the title.

Basically it was black and white with a few people maybe scientists or such at a big house or complex. There were these things that came out of the water with goggle eyes and black wetsuits . They scared the crap out of me when I was 9 or 10.

Still can see those creepy guys coming out of the water.

Wait... you were 4 or 5 by the time it was on HBO...  are you talking about some other version than the 2009 one I'm thinking of, or are you just really young?

Haha, the '09 version was a horrible remake of the, even worse, original. I'm 34...

The Witches (1990). Based on a Roald Dahl children's novel. Looks innocent enough, right?

WRONG! I was 7. It truly horrified me. These hideous bald women walk around with masks on and try to seduce and murder little kids by giving them candy and shit. Angelica Huston still scares me. I still give my mom a hard time about it.
