[ARCHIVED THREAD] - MTS file convertor

Anyone know of a decent free MTS (video) file converter? Our video camera captures video in this format, and its not compatible with the movie maker software. The wife is trying to put something together for her Grandma's bday and hitting a road block with this. I am leery of just DL'ing freeware off the 'net because of spyware etc
