I want to put some Fireclean on them this weekend but I need to degrease them. How should I do that? Warm soapy water (what kind of soap)or would something like Spray 9 be ok?

Thanks guys

I've used non- chlorinated brake cleaner to good effect.

Simple green works great for degreasing.

Solvents works best but are expensive.

Depending on the job I have used dish soap or simplegreen and water many times.

I like using a parts washer after removing the plastic parts. Regular dish soap may not break up the grease completely. Simple green & a soft tooth brush ought to do the trick. Rinse the mess out of it after.

There is nothing better than mineral spirits, also known as paint thinner.  Buy it at WalMart.  It is cheap and does an excellent job without being dangerous to handle.

Fireclean works great. Got it on Wednesday, and used it on all my ARs.. They have never been so smooth..

I degreased them with 90% alcohol

Thank you O_P.

To the guy that said he used Fireclean. I went to the range a couple weeks ago and cycled a bolt on a colt and WOW. I know what you are taking about with it being smooth. I even locked the bolt back and stuck a finger in it and the carbon and powder just wiped away. The stuff is awesome and I can't wait to put it on mine.
