Since there are hundreds, if not thousands, of threads on here about ammo and its unavailability (including, gasp!!!, .22lr!!!!), I thought I would post some photos of old ammo that I have had for a number of years. I collect weapons and militaria from WW2 and WW1 so I have been able to pick up a very small amount of ammo from those time periods, and some from a little later. Nothing super valuable, but very historical, in my opinion and hopefully it will be enjoyable for everyone to see.
First up is some 15 round boxes of WW2 German 7.92X57. Some of it is iron cored, made in 1937, 38, 39 and 42. The Mauser K98k rifle held 5 rounds so this was enough for 3 loadings. Stripper clips would be used with these.
Here is one of the rounds from the top most box. This is one of the iron cored rounds.
Here is a 16 round box of 1944 dated 9mm, steel cased. P08's (Lugers) and P38's had two 8 rd magazines issued per pistol so that is why these boxes are 16 rds. Generally though, steel cased 9mm was used in machine pistols, such as the MP38 or 40. Steel cased was not supposed to work as well in the pistols. I have a bunch of these boxes of 9mm.
Here is a view of the rounds in the box.
Now this is something a little different. This is a 10 round box of Austrian 8X56R in 2 stripper clips for the Austrian M95 rifle or carbine, made after the Anschluss, the German takeover of Austria. These rounds were made in Austria.
Here is one of the stripper clips from the above box. Note the Eagle/Swastika markings
Up next is 32 rounds of WW1 manufactured German 9mm. The rounds are dated 1917 or 1918. I bought these (along with the above ammo) from a collectors gun shop I go to and my belief is these rounds were taken out of a German Trommelmagazin, which was a 32 rd drum magazine for the long barreled Artillery Luger. At the same time I bought these rounds I also bought a real nice Trommelmagazin from the shop. Unfortunately, I traded it off along with the Artillery rig I had years ago.
While not WW2, these are still German, although East German. The bag has the typical 7.62X54R rounds and the small box is 10 rounds of 7.62X39, steel cased. Note the price on the bag. Got these a long time ago at a gun show.
