I had to ship some ammo and ran into a problem today. I tried to ship via Fedex, and they basically would not accept it. They said the ORM-D sticker didn't cut it anymore. They referred to new regulations and consider ammo as haz-mat now. They also require some sort of shipper's declaration and other paperwork. On the other hand UPS just wanted the ORM-D sticker on the box and my money. If you are going to ship ammo just be aware of the possible problems using Fedex. It may have just been my local hub, but it may be a new company-wide rule. Jim |

Shit, I thought only UPS would take ammo.
Last time I went to ship the dumb bitch told me that I needed to bring the box in open and have all the rounds facing the same direction "in case some went off." 1. How would the handlers, driver, etc. know which way that was? 2. They don't just "go off." 3. Unless in a gun, I doubt much would even happen. I called the haz mat department and asked if this was in fact a requirement and they told me it was not. I went back and told the lady this and even still had the haz mat number in my phone. She said it was a requirement for their location. This was a hub, not a UPS store. I tried to file a complaint against her via the UPS website, but the form won't let me use more than 500 characters.
Fuck it, I'll go to the other hub near my house now. They don't have this dumb ass policy. I'm sure this is just her making an anti-gun statement, so I may go back some time and talk to the manager. |

The manager at Fedex showed me the paperwork they had received from their higher ups. They claimed it was a new federal regulation. The clerk at UPS was really nice. I only had a single ORM-D label printed. She said they needed it on all 4 sides of the box so she handed me a marker and said to write it and draw a box around it. She was actually pretty cool. She seperated from the Army as an MP recently and we talked guns and ammo for a while. Go big brown! |
