I enjoyed the hell out of the entire series, then I found out that it's Paul Krugman's favorite series, which made me want to stake ole Paulie out over an anthill, but that's pretty much my normal reaction to hearing his name, so I let the feeling pass.

Weather is chaos.  Calculus is proven in orbital mechanics.

While simple chaotic systems are solvable with understanding of chaos theory, using this field of math to predict the weather fails because it is impossible because nearly each variable has multiple planes of interactions with others.

Consider the Ideal Gas Law.  It is far from ideal in most parts of the atmosphere, about the only place it has minimal deviation is the outer boundary layer of the Exosphere.  Now, if you understood compressibility factor Z for each layer of the atmosphere AND understood the reason for each layer, you could come to a pretty good approximation of energy balance in the atmosphere.  This enthalpy is what drives weather.

That is why weather forecast past five days is a crap shoot.
