Does anyone have any info on the new background check bill that passed Friday? I can't find any real specifics. Will it just require all private sales to go through an FFL? Is it really a background check or NICS and the FFL keeps the form? I read this excludes gifts to family, 72 hour "borrowing' time, and gun smith repair. What will happen to all guns now? How do they expect people to go to an FFL for transfer among friends?

The bill is very flawed.  It's not just private sales, it's all transfers.

Want to leave town for >72hrs and leave your wife a gun to defend herself?  Illegal unless you transfer the gun to her via FFL.  Want to use that gun yourself when you get back in town?  Illegal unless you transfer the gun back to yourself via FFL.

You can see the ramifications of this.

A 72 hour "borrowing" time? Doesn't that negate the intention of the bill? Can someone elaborate on this provision?

Do you know anything else about it?

What else do you have questions on?  I can go on and on about these new laws.

IANAL, just a tech geek caught in the crossfire and fighting back as hard as I can against these laws.

The bill says $10 max that an ffl can charge to do a transfer. I predict most ffl's will not

waste their time doing a private transfer for a lousy ten bucks. They will just say go somewhere else

Here on the western slope, many places are $10 and at least one is free.

Ill read whatever info you have/want to write. Is it the same as the current FFL 7743 form? Will the FFL sill keep it for 20 years? Do you know the penalties? I take it there is no form of registration for the state?… But maybe once they realize they can't force everyone to go through an FFL because there is no record of the gun to begin with they will try Like CA and here in MA….

Because I want to learn about it. I want to know what the legislators think is ok, and because I wouldn't be surprised if other states use CO as an example of what can be done.
