I'm mainly an ARFCOM lurker (go ahead, do a join date/post count analysis on me) but I've been doing a lot more reading over the last few months. With all the banter and downright mudslinging that occurs (especially in GD) over political positions, it got me curious where ARFCOM members really stand politically, especially when the broad political spectrum is considered instead of single issues. The political compass site has been around for quite a while, and they update the survey questions over time to add additional areas of analysis. I'd be curious to see where other members stand.
Political Compass The answers are all Strongly Agree/Agree/Disagree/Strongly Disagree, so there's not a lot of room for indecisiveness, and obviously there's no opportunity to agree or disagree with clarifications. For me, this made some of the questions tough to answer. I went through this and tried to answer the questions as honestly as possible, and was somewhat surprised by my results. I land pretty squarely in the middle of their output chart. The survey is pretty long so the TL;DR types probably need not bother. For those who do, what are your thoughts on this survey, the questions, and your results? Did you come out where you expected or were you surprised by your results? Disclaimer: I'm in no way affiliated with the site, and believe they have left out some important points in their survey. I also have no idea how their algorithms work nor whether their analysis is accurate. |

I was in the middle on the Political Compass, but was way Libertarian on this one. |

Its a loaded test, a way to get people to explore the ideology. It is marketing aimed at people with a 4 second attention span. I got that impression as well... some of the questions seemed to be directed to illicit a certain response IMHO. To make someone taught not to think (public schools, most media, etc) try to think for themselves. |
