How cool were these folks back in the day? Thighs.....SIGH.... Daaaaaaaamn. |
|
I'm a 45-year old male and I'd STILL love to have Agnetha's baby!!! My first tape cassette in the 70s was an ABBA cassette. Still listen to them often. If listening to ABBA is wrong... I don't wanna be right!!! Btw... I write, perform and listen to almost ALL music styles (except cRAP)... but it still makes me sad that ABBA broke-up, John Denver and Randy Rhoads augered-in, etc. What a waste. Well-crafted songs stand the test of time. No... ABBA is not Bach, Mozart, etc... but ABBA was well-crafted pop that makes today's throw-away pop just immediately forgettable junk. Seriously... WHO is going to be listening to Ga Ga, Spears, etc 40 years from now??? |
|
I have Take A Chance On Me on my iPod. Love it. |
|
They'll always be one of the greats. The erasure version of the song was pretty good too. The video... well it's a bit flamboyant, but still... good song. |
|
I was just listening to them the other day... I've taken the wife to Mamma Mia twice and enjoy their tunes.
They were a hit machine back in the day. Love or hate them, you have to admit their catalog has some solid tunes. Edit: the one I can't get out of my head is "Does your mother know?" |

They once turned down an offer of $2,000,000,000 to do a worldwide reunion tour. By the end of their run they absolutely hated each other. Lots of marital infidelity leading to bitter divorces etc. The rest of the band have been open to a reunion for many years... but Agnetha [as a mentioned, my favorite] is the one who won't do it. Gotta give the woman credit for not being a money-grubbing whore. But still a bummer that they don't reunite. At this point, I'm not sure how good it'd sound (or look) anyways... |

What 2/3rds?ETA..I'm joking around,ABBA is one of those bands you have to like despite the ridicule of admitting it.

I don't wanna be right!!! I'm right there with you man. My favorite ABBA tune has always been "The Winner Takes It All"... but it always makes me sad as it was quite the harbinger of the couples' and band's demise. |

They have also consistently turned down offers from other bands to sample their music. They allowed Madonna to do one song ("Hung Up" samples "Gimme Gimme") in around 2006, and that was apparently only the second time EVER that they allowed another band to sample any of their music. They could have made a lot of money from allowing (and reportedly get tons of requests), but just don't want to. |

Quoted: LOL. Me too. ABBA is awesome. I pity the empty and meaningless lives of people who cannot appreciate that. I get it that folks a lot younger than I am "may" not "Get" what the '70's (and early 80's) music scene was all about about but...they (ABBA) were a big part of it and those of us who where around then tend to think of them fondly (At least I do!) |

Can you imagine if they'd have taken that $2 BILLION (provided that was a correct figure) to reunite??? That'd be $500,000,000 EACH!!! Of course, after Sweden got through taking their chunk of it, they'd have money for a nice dinner at Pizza Hut. |

Zactly! We had lots of freakin DISCO to put up with. ABBA was HEAVEN in that stinky mess (admittedly... there were probably a few disco tunes I sort of dug). |

I think one billion dollar offer was still unconfirmed, too. Anywho... good music. |
