So here's an ad for someone looking for a mosin for his ptsd afflicted depressed vet little brother, anyone wanna help him out? What could go wrong? I'm not smart enough for the fancy linking, I do well just to post something.

Good luck with that. Armslist is full of the mentally challenged right now (NY has someone selling a used Remington 770 30-06 for $600... in stock at buds new for $315)

It it illegal to want to get a good deal on a gift that you plan to give someone?

He could use something to perk him up a bit and this is the best I can do.

If it's legit I hope he finds what he's looking for, and the blessed ownership of a russian rifle is all it takes to pull him out of his funk....but I always doubt things first, especially in todays political climate.

Now I could be wrong as I am sometimes but I've read a vet with ptsd on their jacket is illegal from owning firearms, hence it would be a strawman purchase no matter how good the brothers intentions are

Link? It sounds to me like you're wrong, I haven't heard anything about this besides guys who are deemed mentally incompetent to handle their finances being prevented from owning guns.

Unless he's buying from a dealer, that's not a straw purchase. Straw purchases involve lying on a 4473.

Nothing illegal was suggested. Gifts are 100% legal.

This.
As long as he has not been declared mentally incompetent.
You can buy a gift for anyone you want.
I have given several guns as gifts.

Call me crazy, but I get the feeling that the person who posted that add is trolling.

For what, I don't know. But they certainly aren't very subtle.
