My wife thinks it's rude to use the speaker on our phone. I normally do it when I'm put on hold,
or when there's other things I have to do, like computer troubleshooting.
I see nothing wrong with it, especially as the new phones don't tuck under the chin to well.

Can the other party even tell you are on the speaker?

I refuse to talk to people on speaker phones unless it's a conference and there's like 7 people in the room. For one-on-one conversations, it screams "I'm too important to put the fucking phone up to my ear and talk to you."

Usually.  Your voice sounds different.  Do they care , that is a better question

If you are in a public place, don't use it.  If it is a private conversation and should not be overheard by others, don't use it.

I find nothing wrong with it, but I seldom use it for personal calls. Waiting on hold...all the time.

One can usually tell when they're on speaker.

Makes it hard to type on a computer with only one hand, no?

Funny how high-tech phone products made audio quality worse.

Nothing beats a Western Electric 2500 set.

I hate when I'm put on speaker phone.

Can't remember the last time I picked up the handset on my phone at work.

One of my pet peeves in an office environment.  We've got an individual who uses the speaker phone for ALL of his calls.  Everyone has told him to stop, but he doesn't care.  Fortunately, he is leaving in a week (being thrown back into the field).

One of my good friends uses the speakerphone. I think his wife makes him do it so she can hear what his conversation is. I make him take it off speaker when I hear him on it.

He bought a new car after he retired and she drives it more than him. She also does ALL the driving when they go somewhere together. It bugs the shit out of me, but hey,it's none of my business.....

Hate that shit.  "I can't hear you"  "What"  "We must have a bad connection" "I still can't hear you" until they pick up the fucking handset.
