The best biscuits I ever ate were from a Bisquick recipe. We were on a Boy Scout campout and we wrapped the dough around a stick and baked it that way... peeled the cooked dough off the stick, smeared butter on it and ate it while the remaining dough cooked.
Stuff just tastes better when cooked by yourself over an open fire, y'know? |

I prefer home made using the Betty Crocker cookbook recipe, substituting butter instead of lard, don't overknead, cut out rather than dropped, and pat down by hand rather than roll out. Use of real buttermilk is nice when you have it. Lemon/milk substitute buttermilk isn't worth the effort.
I make them periodically. They rise up like frigging stovepipe hats and pull apart in nice flakey layers. My kids love them topped with honey from our hives, sorghum syrup or jam. Store bought biscuits usually use soybean oil, margarine and other nasty stuff that makes my skinand tongue itch like crazy. |
