My wife was looking at buying a LeapPad for my 3 year old son, until I saw how much they charge for the apps. An Android tablet seems like the clear winner... with many of the same apps and games on the Amazon marketplace for $2 or $3, plus the fact that it can do Netflix with quite a few of his favorite shows. Something like this one seems to be a good deal... ICS, 8" screen, front and rear cameras, etc... The reviews seem to say that it's pretty good as long as I don't get a DOA one that needs to be returned. This one seems more kid-friendly, but is slower and has a smaller screen. Does anyone else have recommendations on an inexpensive Android tablet that they've had good luck with? |

I think you will be much happier in the long run if you spring for the Galaxy Tab or Nexus 7. That is above your price range, but the lower end tablets tend to be much, much lower quality, and a tablet is a very useful piece of equipment that I think you will enjoy very much.
I know it's revolutionized trips to the bathroom for me Spend a bit more, get a lot more. My parents like their original Kindle tablet (got it when it was new, my roommate has the HD and it's nice too) but I like the Nexus 7 the best for price, performance, quality, and not being stuck with Amazon stuff. Surely a used Nexus 7 or something wouldn't be much more than $150 or so. There's a Nook Color on the EE for 114 shipped. I'm not really a fan but at least the hardware is decent. |

Quoted: Does anyone else have recommendations on an inexpensive Android tablet that they've had good luck with? I bought some Novo 7 Crystals from http://www.flsuperstore.com/tablets/crystal.html I am happy with the tablets, and the seller was real good. Use the discount code SLATE to save a few bucks. Compared to what you're looking at, it has dual cores and better resolution. The competition is steep in the Chinese tablet market, so for me it came down to overall spec, but also the reliability of the brand. Some of these things are assembled really poorly and won't hold up, period. Ainol is an established brand known for quality products, they're very popular... The one you linked on ebay, I never even heard of, and I read on these things and comparison shopped for quite awhile. There is also community support: http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/40523-new-ainol-crystal-heres-your-get-started-guide/page__hl__crystal That's my two cents, hope it helps. Good luck. |

The wife and I both have iPads, we just want something that my son can call his own... And something that we don't have to live in fear of him spilling milk into.
Plus the fact that there's a few apps he seems to like that are only available for Android. |

Pick up a used Pantech Element. It's waterproof. I have one left over from my AT&T contract that is now my wifi only tablet. The antenna isn't that great or it could be my wifi coverage in the house. I'm still working on that issue. Other than that, it's a great tablet. |
