My sammich maker downloaded some shit on my computer.  Well what ever she downloaded had a browers app attached(im guessing) I uninstalled it but it's still fucking my browser.  I reinstalled Firefox, but it is still showing this fucking search engine bar for some knock off google companie.  Anytime I open a new window this BS search engine company defaults to their search page.  How do I get rid of this fucking thing?

ETA: Search Results LLC is the fucking company that Im talking about

Step 1: Un-install firefox

Step 2: Ctrl+alt+delete / Make sure program is not running in task manager

Step 3: Download Opera

If it's not malicious, I would do the following:

Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features

Let the list populate and go through it one-by-one to see if you can find the offending program and remove it. The search engine hijacks generally install themselves as a legit program and aren't there to screw up your computer. Annoy you, yes, but not mess you up. If it is a malicious hijack, start with the free version of Malwarebytes and run a complete scan. I'd recommend that in any case.

[ETA] I just checked, and that program should uninstall as I outlined.

Another browser.

Switching to a new browser won't solve the problem anyway.

Maybe it's malware?  Download Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials.  Boot in safe mode and run MB and MSE.  Keep MSE running afterwards.

I did and I uninstalled it, it's still showing up.  It's got to be piggy backed on something else.  I keep my laptop very clean and basic.  I recognize all the other sotware/publishers.

ETA Search bar is still showing up, just it is not showing up in my add/remove programs on the control panel.  Weird....I really dont want to have to go into my registry files and start fucking around in there....YET

Check to see if it's listed in the add-ons of Firefox. If so, remove it there too and then reboot. The executable may be in memory and won't go away until you reboot.

Running a Malware scan now, then if its still there Ill reboot after a Cache files dump.  It doent show up on the add-ons list, that was one of the first things I checked.

Reboot in to safemode command prompt.  Run MBAM full scan.  Reboot in to safe mode.  Check your msconfig > startup list for malicious items.  Check your Control Panel > Programs and Features for malicious items.  You can run MBAM again at this point just to be safe.  Then reboot in to normal mode and see if the problem still exists.

If MBAM doesn't find anything in safe mode command prompt or it doesn't completely remove the malware then you can try running System Restore from safe mode command prompt and find a point at least a week before the point when the file was likely downloaded.

You'll need some general knowledge of how to navigate to directories and execute files from cmd but that's easy stuff.

Serious answer. Make sure your backups are good ( you are backing up, right?) and reinstall the whole OS after formatting the disk.  If it is malware,    It could leave remnants no matter how well you think you've removed it.

You need to nuke it from orbit and kill it with fire for some of this shit.  This is one of the reasons why I switched my whole extended family to Macs. They're not impervious to malware, but they're damn near close.  I no longer had the desire to fix windows pcs every single holiday or visit.

Reboot
Press F8 (sometimes F12) for Safe Mode
ETA:

- Generally I'd remove anything that had a blank space that usually shows the "author" or w/e.
Uninstall FireFox
Find the Programs Folder Directory for FireFox and delete it
Run Malwarebytes, and run a deep scan
Open Antivirus, if AVG schedule a scan of boot files
Redownload and reinstall Firefox
Run it

If you have CC cleaner use that to clean up the registry and misc junk files.

From Google

Go to Control Panel\Programs and Features, find two programs called
"Default Tab" and "Default Tab chrome," both by Search Results, LLC.
Close the browser and re-open it, the search box should be gone.

If it shows up again, you can type about:config in the Firefox location bar, search for the name of the of the hijacker, and delete every reference to it; reset the areas it shows up in to default.
