Believe it or not, I've actually had some good luck with Walmart the past couple days after seeing nothing there on several trips in the past couple of months. I got 3 boxes of Tulammo .223 yesterday morning (day off) and 2 22lr minimags and a box of tulammo 9 mm (that's all the 9 mm they got, one box of Tulammo) after work today. I know, I know Tulammo is crap...but it's cheap and it's fine for plinking.
Today, they were stocking the ammo section and I was number 2 when I got there. Another guy walks up and he's one of those over-eager types who wants to talk to you like he knows you. He's a normal looking middle-aged guy. He starts talking about how much fun it is to shoot his Colt 22 AR, but how it's hard to find 22, so he always checks when he's at Walmart. He asks if we know about Cheaper than Dirt and if we buy anything there. Then he starts talking about how they're going to take our rights away and how they're going to get us on ammo. Some bill is passing today that is going to make ARs and tactical mini-14s illegal, but not mini-14s with a regular wood stocks (which he has one he bought at Walmart by the way). I'm wondering what imaginary legislation passed today that no one but him knows about. I'm hoping the guy stocking hurries up, since this guy appears to be making things up. The stock guy then opens up the last 2 boxes and there's some 22 mag cci maximag bulk packs. The yahoo then starts asking me what a 22 magnum is. I say, it's a 22 magnum, larger case and more powerful. The he says, "But you can shoot it in a .22, right?" At this point, I've totally dismissed this guy in my mind....but it gets better. He notices the 3 box limit, then talks about how that it's bullsh!t. I tell him that I'm glad it's there so gunshops can't come in, buy it all and mark it up. He says, "but I'm not going to do that, I'll take care of this right here." He walks over to the first passer-by and recruits him to buy 22 for him, right in front of the guy who's stocking and running the counter. At this point, I've got my stuff and I'm leaving. He walks his new friend up the counter and says "I'll have 3 boxes of cci and he'll have 3 boxes of cci." Then, he assures the guy that's buying for him that he has no ill intent, "I'm retired military, I'm not going to do anything bad with it." I didn't stick around, but I was hoping the guy behind the counter was going to deny the straw man ammo, especially since the yahoo arranged the whole thing right in front of him. However, I think he was getting what he wanted.

| Kudos to our Walmart gun counter crew also. Can you imagine having to put up with that day in and day out. I always start out by asking the commando to swivel around and count the security cameras looking down at him. Then mention something about a rumor that I heard that the BATFE is coming by checking the video tapes from time to time and talking to the gun counter crew. |
