I am burning the Bulletfest III CD for Lumpy223 and I'm new to this. I'm using Nero and first burn went fine. Question is: I remember hearing not to burn at full speed to avoid errors so I didnt. I could have burned at 12x, 8x, 6x, or 3x so I chose 6x. I have an AMD 1400 MHZ processor. Any other tips would be great. Can I surf while I burn or otherwise use the computer or do I gots to wait? Thanks BP |

If your media is rated for higher speed burning, and most is these days, you should be fine with your combo. You probably won't have a problem surfing while you burn, but if you have several applications running while you burn, you can get a buffer error. I'm guessing your burner has an IDE interface, and that can be more tempermental about causing buffer underruns than a SCSI interface. Anyway, go ahead and try it. Like AGTM said, if you make a coaster, CD-Rs are cheap. [:)] Edited to add: Your software should tell you if the burn was successful. If you get an error message, you made a coaster. Otherwise you can assume it's probably okay. |

USUALLY Nero will tell you if there was an error during the burn. But the only way to be 100% certain is to actually test the disk after burning it. (I have burned bad disks that Nero told me were OK) BTW, I'd be willing to pay a lot for a good CD and DVD burning system that was GUARANTEED to work 100% of the time (or at least notify you if there are any errors). |

Just use the burner to burn. Meaning don't copy if from the CD-Rom drive. Put the CD you want to copy in the burner and select on-the-fly burn. Here's he info: "On-the-fly burning can be faster but it can cause buffer-under run errors when not enough data is supplied by the source drive (the CD reader) and the burning process has to be interrupted. Instead of working CDs one has a lot of coasters for drinks because if the process is stopped the CDs are useless. Some burners, including TDK’s 16X burner, have "burn-proof", which prevents buffer-under run errors. If one has a reasonably fast computer and CD reader he should not have a problem burning on the fly. Otherwise, first burn an image of the CD on the hard drive before burning to the media." |

Quoted: Next question: I've burnt one copy of Bulletfest III. Is the file still in the computer and how do I do multiple copies. BP Copy it to your hard drive, say in a folder on your desktop. You can set Nero for multiple copies, or you can simply go back and hit "open" in the File menu and the same file previously used should come up as your first option. |

Burn at a mid speed (like you have been) and I strongly recommend you don't do much else while burning. While it shouldn't be, burning is a very delicate process, and anything touching the IDE bus while it's going on tends to screw it up. In other words, programs needing to access the HD while burning can cause problems. When you burn you burn, that's about it. Mike |
