Im sorry, but this movie fucking sucks Watched it for the first time the other night, and it was nowhere near as messed up as the group here makes it out to be. Yes, there were a few creepy parts, but that's about it.

If I was 16 I would still think the movie was dumb as shit.

The way I see it is, its a better 'Doom' than the 'Doom' movie was.

That and it combined so many of my favorite things and created a very cool mood.

The wife and I watch it a few times each year.

Ok, maybe it was the fact that I saw it in the theatres, in the front row, between two very skittish coeds, when I was 16...

It's good, but not great.

The last half of the movie isn't nearly as good as the first.

It's not really scary, or messed up. But it is one hell of a fun Sci-Fi to watch.

I'm a big fan of Sci-Fi BTW.

I enjoyed the movie; a ship that travels to hell and back, bringing evil with it. neat!

I bought it at best buy on dvd for $5.

I think Event Horizon inspired Dead Space. So for that I am grateful.

First time I've ever seen an Event Horizon thread started the right way.  Well played OP.

There's plenty of creepy shit you can make up about space without having to get into the supernatural. Leave that for farmhouses in horror movies.

It was extremely creepy and disturbing for its time. Now, I'm not sure it would have the same effect.

Having a lack of imagination doesn't mean it was a bad movie.
Great flick.  The CGI is dated enough it detracts from the movie.
It was awesome in the theater at the time.

EDIT:  I'm a big fan of Sam Neil.  Event Horizon and In the Mouth of Madness are two of my favorites from that time.  The set design alone in Event Horizon makes it a better movie than most.  In the Mouth of Madness was just good Lovecraftian fun.

I'd like to see a breakdown by age of who likes the movie.

Much of the hate is probably from 90's children who thought The Phantom Menace was a great movie.

It was okay.

However, the whole "Oh noez, the black holez drivez took us to Hell "-plot was pretty transparent from the beginning.

An angle that had you wondering a bit longer if they were going to go supernatural with it, or if it was just bonkers crew members hiding out in the ship doing stuff might have made the suspense better.

I enjoyed it. There was supposed to be a directors cut with footage of the massacre scenes with the previous fleet going ape shit againt eachother. But its now lost footage or at least that's what the rumors are.

shrug...

It's the only movie that's ever really disturbed me or scared me like that.

I freely admit that it's no great achievement of filmmaking.

There's a reason everyone who's going to talk about Paul Thomas Anderson will inevitably make it a point to mention "the good Paul Anderson" in the opening.

Saw it in the theater. It was sufficiently creepy. Gave my friend a seizure. That was creepier.
