Would it be possible for Obama to be Pope AND President? Or would we just have to let Michele run things for a bit?

A Catholic friend of mine once told me that, technically speaking, there's no requirement that the Pope be Catholic or male. It's just almost impossible that a non-male, non-Catholic would get the votes to become Pope.

If true, Obama has a shot on both counts.

Just so long as he doesn't have to show a Baptismal Certificate.

In roughest theory the person elected to Pope does not need to be a priest or be a Catholic, but could be baptized, confirmed, and ordained right before being made Pope.  While there is historical precedence for that happening for a Bishop - don't get your hopes up for a Pope

While you are at it, also recognize that the vast majority of Popes have been Italian, with pretty much all the remainder all be European (there may be a very small few who were essentially Mediterranean.  There is NO precedence for a US Pope or even a Kenyan one.

---

Pope is the Bishop of Rome.  As such will need to be ordained and only men are ordained.

Well you know there was a female pope that blended herself with the clergy and passed as a man and slept her way to the top. She became pope, was caught, executed, her history buried, and a law that men of the collar had to abstain b/c of her treachery.

Get used to hearing that.  The media constantly repeated it like a mantra the last time they chose a pope.

You can't be a pope if you are against everything the church  is about. Birth control, abortions, banging dudes and chicks that look like dudes.  He dosent fit in regardless of his half honkyness.

He started all kinds of extra wars, killed tons of peoples with drones, and won a peace prize.

He had no experience at anything, was elected president, did horrible, got elected again.

Which only serves to display the media's fundamental lack of understanding over what the word 'marriage' means to Catholics.

While a full explaination is probably overkill, I'll point out that one of the principal callings of a married couple is to "accept children, lovingly, from God."

It's not that the Catholic church is somehow discriminatory for not "letting*" gays get married.  If you want to go there, then you're ultimately saying that biology is discriminatory.
Which, if you're really going to go that far, then sure.  The world isn't fair.  I hope this isn't news to you.

* The entire concept that marriage is some conditional state which requires someone else's permission is also absurd.  Insofar as the Church is concerned, a husband and wife marry themselves, in response to a calling from God.  They recite the vows, they make the commitment, and they alone are the only Earthly arbiters of their union.  Witnesses, including the witness of the Church, are present to support the couple as a loving community.  While colloquially it's nice to imagine that the physical sacrament somehow legitimizes a union, the only legitimacy it needs is the commitment of the two partners made in full conscience and desire, following appropriate discernment.  The Church simply refuses to witness those unions they don't consider to be in good faith with their teachings.

The Church also won't witness a union involving bartering, such as mail-order brides, etc. because the decision is not made purely out of a loving heart.  We got rid of the concept of dowry, etc. centuries ago.  While gifts of value are still traditional tokens of gesture (e.g. the exchange of rings, usually of precious metals), the concept of purchasing a spouse in a quid pro quo type of arrangement is not something the Church will lend witness to.  But a government may, and often does, do exactly that.

These are entirely separate concepts.  Just because the word 'marriage' exists in the common lexicon to describe both does not make them the same.
