Is it weird to date someone with the same name as your ex?

She initiated contact, and so far we've hit it off quite well (A British girl not afraid of guns and pretty cool overall)

But she has the same name as my last serious girlfriend, who broke my heart 2½ years ago.

So it brings back memories, good and bad.

Would you?
2/11/2013 3:38:15 AM EDT
[#1]
Why not?  At least you won't call her by the wrong name.
2/11/2013 3:38:37 AM EDT
[#2]
Yes. Name doesn't matter, the person does.

IF you think it's worth it, yes..... Also can't fuck up her name

Better ask, "Why wouldn't you?""

Fo for it.

I married a girl with the same first name as the girl I was previously engaged to.

It's a non-issue.

2/11/2013 3:46:28 AM EDT
[#7]
Make her bacon.

Bitches love bacon.

Ex-wife and current wife both have the same first name. No issues here though sometimes people do chuckle when they hear that.
2/11/2013 3:48:06 AM EDT
[#9]
What difference would it make?  Oh, you said it brings back 'memories'.

Get over the first one or you will never be able to commit to this one.

In other words... get over it and have fun with this one.  Life is to short for this kind of BS.

(not a slam, most of us have been there; just sayin')

If you're having issues because her name is the same as your ex's and you're reminded of your ex then you're probably not ready. Sorry, but it doesn't sound like you've moved on. Make peace with the issue and either take some more time before you date again or accept the fact that you might have a great gal who happens to have the same name and enjoy it.

Need pics

At least you won't have to worry about the uber-embarrasing "slip of the tongue."

Get a dog.  Move along.

OK.  This breathtakingly stupid relationship thread I've seen since I've been here.  And that takes in a lot of territory.

You can finally do something with those leftover personalized gifts you bought.

It's so cliche' that it seems
the worst of things that could
possibly be mentioned to a member
that posted this here, however
I have to ask the same question
that virtually everyone on this
board, given the opportunity to
do so if they were thinking
clearly, would ask.....  Pics of the
past and current object of your desire?

Any potential weirdness will be more than balanced out by this.   Also, it simplifies life for your friends.

I was thinking about something similar.  Wouldn't it be super weird to date someone with the name of your own kid?

I could date someone with the name of an ex, but not the name of my kid.  Just couldn't and wouldn't do it.

2/11/2013 4:26:04 AM EDT
[#20]
Perfect!  Now you have no worries of saying the wrong name in your sleep

My brother dated 3 girls in a row named Kate. Odd but not a big deal. At least you won't accidentally moan another name while in the sack.

I dated four girls that their ex husbands were the same name as mine and it was a little odd at times.

That's nothing.

The previous boyfriends of the last two girls I dated before my wife were apparently each hung like Thermos bottles.

Now that's pressure!

Depends. Things like that tend to matter to people who have vaginas.

no, but it's weird if she has the same name as your sister - i was creeped out when we first fucked

It's not bad to date, I've had a few Erins.

The freaky thing for me is that my last 3 have all driven Nissan Maximas.  That's annoying.

You can't avoid people because they have the same name.

Get over your ex and give it a try with the new girl after you post pics.

No offence taken.

I've dated other girls in the past couple of years but none with the same name

Agreed.  You need to be thoughtful to your friends as well.  There's nothing worse than trying to keep my friends' significant others straight

You'll get past that.

My sister's ex and current husband both have the same name.  The similarities end there though so she's happy now.

It's like they're constantly looking for new ways to NOT have a happy relationship.

Idk I guess it just happens sometimes.

... my brother got divorced... went to a dating site and got an intro... the woman looked almost EXACTLY like his wife's MOTHER.... losing proposition.

He apologized and she accepted it.

Now he's married to a beautiful lady with German/ Swedish descent.

Can she cook and clean? Then her name is irrelevant because she'll eventually be known as the Mrs.

Just kidding, OP.  Go for it!

When I was single I dated a lot so it wasn't unusual to end up with a girl with same first name as an ex
2/11/2013 11:38:58 PM EDT

It's not weird, it's a sign.
You should get her name tattooed on you.

You would shit yourself if you knew how many girlfriends I've had that were named Jessica.

Kinda wierd now that I think about it
