My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer a couple of years ago.  Started in the esophagus, had surgery to remove some of the esophagus, then they found cancer in the liver etc.  After a couple of rounds of Chemo and radiation the doc gave him a 5% chance to make it 6 month three years ago.  He beat those odds and has actually lived a pretty good life for the last couple of years, done things he wouldn't have done before, but now it's back with a growth in the esophagus again.  He's a lost a lot of weight and is much weaker now, going to try one more round of Chemo to see how it goes.

I'm afraid this is the end game; those who have been through this, am I right, what's your take?

I have no direct "take" on it other than prayers sent to your family and to say he must be tought as nails to fight like he did the first time.  He just might have enough in him to do it again, my best wishes for him Sir.

It's hard to be optimistic when they say "Stage 4".

Sorry to say, you really got to face the end.  On a brighter note, he certainly lived longer than my dad.  It made him very sick to his stomach and it was hellish.  Sorry to see a good man go, but it was a 20-1 shot and you did better than most.  Prayers sent my friend.

I miss him every damn day.

Seeing my Dad go through it...all I can say is: treasure every moment.

So many things about which we never had the chance to speak.

Best wishes for your father.

This. I had a friend beat back cancer 3 times. The 4th time finally got him. But he never, ever gave up the fight. And neither should your Dad.

Buddy of mine died in 2008 from stage 4 colon cancer.

He was 275 lbs, 6'2" before the weight loss started.  By the time he died he was about 80 lbs.

Keep him well fed and cherish every moment.
