So how much was the normal supplies going for? I have pretty much everything I need to get started except for powder I was lucky and just bought large and small rifle primers from a local at just little inflated price. How much does it cost per round to load bulk .223?

There are roughly 7000 grains/lb of powder (powder ran about $20-$24/lb), you know your primers cost and bullets run 9.00-12.00/100 for FMJ.  I'll let you do the math.

I'm still loading 223 for 150 per K with components bought 5 or 6 years ago.  To say current pricing is insane is an understatement

I think I was loading 55 gr FMJBTs for about $0.14/rd with surplus powder, pulled bullets, once-fired free brass, and Tula primers.  Hope this helps.

I bought 1000 55gr FMJ for $65 a few months before panic. Primers were ~25 per 1000 i think

I just bought 500 55gr zmax for $60 and 1000 primers for $45.

Bad prices are everywhere, but with some hunting and timing "okay" prices are still out there.

Midway USA made a customer through this panic to say the least. Good pricing and retarded fast shipping.

I paid $120 for 1k 55gr bullets shipped, and $55 for 1k primers. Still need powder. I have tons of brass, just needs cleaned. This is my first batch and Im getting started at the worst time ever so I figured I would be paying more. Hopefully when stuff gets back supplies will be cheaper.

Back in the 1990s, I bought primers for $13/k, powder for $10/pound and quality (Sierra) bullets for $120/k.

Seeing how a pound will load 280 rounds (25 grains/cartridge), that adds $ 36/k.   $168/k or 16.8 cents per round.

Bruno shooter supply has a decent supply of stuff in stock. Caveat being I've never ordered from there. I placed an order ~2 weeks ago though so we'll see. Prices have since crept up

You want me to give you a rundown on every component out there, before panic/after panic?

Sorry...that's too much homework.

I will say, since I'm involved with the Reloading forum here and on SnipersHide, that:

Hornady 55gr .224 FMJ/BT...the standard, were going for ~$100/1k shipped before the panic and now are selling for $200/1k shipped, with some guys asking $190/1k and $185/1k, this past week, so there's a bit more competition.  They are selling.

Local gun store powder is now $24 a pound, with good supply, up from $22/# last year.  Federal Gold Metal Match 210Ms (Lg rifle) were $40 at the same place and are now $45 plus tax.

What's gone nutty is the Hornady .30 cal 150gr FMJ/BT general purpose bullets.  Guys think that they have gold bars in their hands.  Something that retailed at 'ass-rape' Bass Pro for $23/100 is selling for $40-$50 per 100, by the guys who have them.

The problem isn't always the price, but availability.

I've squirreled away stuff for 18 years, so I'm living large.

Chris

pre panic price for me is 17 cents per round.

free brass

25 grains of powder is 7 cents

1 primer is 3 cents

1 soft point 55 gr bullet is 7 cents

=========================

my LGS has currently

powder for 9 cents

primers are 4 cents

bullets are 11 to 15 each on the internet. (if you can find em) LGS has em for 20, but im not paying that.

so if i used my LGS a round would cost me, 33 cents each. thats what M193 was 3 months ago.

If i bought bullets online, it would cost me 24-28 cents each and thats about what M193 was 8 months ago.

Currently loading .223 with new SS109 bullets, WC842 and CCI 41s for about .13-.14 a round.  Components were purchased in October.
