Needing a recommendation for a high quality flashlight to take camping. Depending on size/weight, I may even just keep it in my pocket for everyday carry. Any suggestions?

Look into the quark mini either in Cr123, or AA, depending on prefrence.  For camping, I would rather bring the model with two batteries.

I have a quark CR1232 that I love.  Its bright, with a great battery life, and easy to pocket.  I wouldn't use it for EDC, but when I now I'll be outside at night for a while, its the only light I'll use.

Go with an Elzetta zfl m60, cannot be beaten. Although you might want to wait for the uber bright version coming soon???

My EDC light it a Fenix PD20. Slightly larger than a Chapstick. Has 190 lumens with 5 modes. Comes with a belt holster, which when on the belt is small enough that no one can see. Keeps the light out of my pocket and I can draw it faster. If I didn't wear the holster out I'd still use it. This light uses a CR123 battery. You can buy 6 tenergy life-po4 rechargeable batteries and charger for $20 on amazon. You can also get a fenix diffuser tip for it to make it into a lantern.

I pair that with a Fenix TK-21. It takes 2-CR123's. 450-ish lumens with 5 settings. It has a 1" bodyto fit into a rifle mount. It can also accept a Fenix diffuser, the larger size.

Be careful if you get a stream light or sure fire. I don't think they can accept rechargeable CR123's(RCR123's). RCR123's put out more than the standard 3v for a CR123 and your flashlight will be toast. Your light will tell you. I know Fenix lights can.

The nitecore pioneer listed in the second thread has only been out for about 2 months, and is one of the coolest lights available for its size right now.

I have a Streamlight and a Fenix.  But you know what I carry the most?  A Maglite XL50.  Seriously.  It's small enough to slip in a pocket, brighter than either my Streamlight or my Fenix, and it runs on AAA batteries.  Oh, and it cost 20 bucks, so if I lose it, I don't give a shit.

there must be something wrong with your fenix or you bought a low output one. my PD30 outputs almost double what that XL50 does and its probably 5 years old.

I would only buy a light that will run on 18650 litho cells. You get longer run time and u dont have to worry about eating up $$ on batts every time you turn the light on. You can also run cr123 as backup if need be but I have yet to ever need to do it myself on a trip.

Fenix or my new fav Nitecore are highly recommended. I wouldn't buy a surefire, over priced and inder perform.

I am sure a lot of high speed low drag 400+ lumen lights have been named by now, and they are all good,  but what I have notices is I would rather have a "regular" 120'ish LED flashlight that lasts 12+ hours on a set of batteries then 1 that puts out 500 but only lasts 2 hours.  just MHO

fenix PD30.  Been using it for work for three years, dropped about a dozen times on concrete, spent 7 months zip-tied to a hard hat, now is pocket carried again.

Yep, still works and gets 3-10 months out of 2 CR123's depending on use.

if you want to run both 18650's and CR123's then you need to make sure the light can handle the extra voltage of the 2 123a's. some lights can, some cant and if they cant the led will go POOF real quick.

I really like that I can get good, high capacity, rechargeable batteries for it (18650), but still use CR123s if need be.

You wanna talk bang for your buck? I picked up one of these little Coleman's at WalMart about a year and a half ago, and it works great! Still have it on my nightstand every single night. Meanwhile, my Surefire that I paid 4x as much for? I don't even know where it is right now...
