I've broken my knuckles once or twice and now it seems like one or two are almost always inflamed and slightly painful, is there anything I can do about that? Any vitamins that would help or something?

What? Nothing? I figured one of you old farts would know a trick or two.

Cod liver oil capsules help according to my father.

Daily quality fish oil pills (like Carlson's Elite) and Zyflamend...just zyflamend alone would help but together after 90 days of consistently taking these I bet you'd have significantly less pain.

When performing "The Stranger", don't sit on your hand as long and then shorten the stroke and reduce speed.

Thanks. Is Zyflamend prescription or over the counter?

Quit doing the "five-knuckle-shuffle" and all your problems will cease...

I started taking some vitamin D after someone told me it helped. It does seem to help, but doesn't last all day.

Chondroitin and Glucosamine. Helps synovial joints. May or may not help you. Depends on what's wrong with the joints you're having problems with.

Be very careful about taking NSAIDS, or aspirin.  They can cause really serious problems with holes in your stomach and/or intestines even if your doctor is monitoring you closely.  I ended up in the hospital, and the gastroenterologist said I am now essentially "allergic" to any of them.  My doc kept really close tabs on me, and even with all that, I had problems.  I ended up in the hosptial for a week, had to have the holes cauterized, then they put me on a bunch of meds to help heal stuff up.  Now, as long as I don't take NSAIDS or aspirin, I can return to my liberal use of tobasco...

Speak with your doctor about things you can do before you mess yourself up.  Taking aspirin or ibuprophen as directed once or twice shouldn't be a problem, but for anything long term, you really would be smart to talk with your doctor.

Wow, I didn't realize that could happen. Interesting. I guess I'm finally going to have to break down and see a doctor.

You're no newb so why are you annoyed that your post went a whole 28 minutes without a reply? :-)

You could try chondroitin but it isn't reallly shown to have much beneficial effect.

I think the real deal is that you're better off using those joints rather than babying them if your goal is to stave off arthritic pain.

I'm not a doctor, though.  I'd love to hear the opinion of an MD on this.

MSM.  An anti-inflamitory, can be found at the 'mart' stores.  Try a maximum dose for 4-5 days then you can cut back and discover a maintenance dose or an 'as needed' dose.  Diferent for everbody.  Will either be great or do nothing, Cheap enough to get a bottle and try. Five to seven bucks.
