I have been showing up at local WalMarts and getting my share of .45, 9mm, 22, .270 and 380. There are no 5.56 or 223's anywhere near me.
So I go on line to companies that I have ordered supplies from before. They are backordered on lead 1-2 months, primers, and forget about getting a new size die to reload what I am getting low on. Jeeze, the panic is not letting up, it's getting worse. Even steel cased Wolf is sold the fuck out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn pissed I missed out on a 550 dillon on CL last year ready to go for $400.00. Kicking myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I've said it before and I'll say it again: This doesn't feel like any ordinary panic buy situation, nor does it feel like people just stocking up for a long hard winter. It feels to me like people preparing for war. Literally. I bet I talked to ten people today that mentioned throwing our elected officials out by force. We here in MN are in the middle of our own gun grabbing shitstorm so that is probably the driving force for that talk. |

This time reminds me of the Parable of the Ten Virgins.
I tried to warn all my friends, family members, neighbors, and acquaintances. They figured they would have enough time to get an AR15 eventually. I told 'em, "Guys, I've been panic-buying since 1993 because I don't know what I'll be able to pass on to my kids and grandkids." Now they call me up, expecting a miracle. I tell 'em prices have jumped from 200%-500% or more on many critical components, especially BCG's and magazines, and supply is scarce. I hope it calms down, and we get back to the times when we farted marshmallows and crapped Hostess Cupcakes, but I think those days are gone my friends. |

It feels to me like people preparing for war. Literally. I came in here to post some sort of smart ass answer, until I read your post. Can you tell me how this is different than the 94 ban or possibly the 2008 elections? Is this panic going on longer than either of those two? Two things that I am noticing are that AR's are much more popular, and we seem to have more BS bills being introduced. |

Given that you are doing your personal best to CONTRIBUTE to the panic - I don't see your point. |

It was actually the ban years that popularized the AR as it inspired manufacturers to be very creative and come up with ways to make the rifles more interesting and attractive while still complying with a law that by all rights should have been studiously ignored at all times by all concerned. I think the transfers without background checks are going away. Don't believe the AWB will make it, or the online ammo ban. |

CJ You are dead on. The 94 ban CREATED the AR culture because of all the diverse rifles made to circumvent the rules. |

It seems much deeper, as in nothing available where as before it was mostly just the military calibers and prices on those weren't going as crazy. Right now around here all shelves are nearly bare and racks are even short on bolt actions. I don't remember there being no .22 rimfire to be had before. C'mon. I got every gun I could ever want so not panic buying there. When I see 15 guys waiting at 7am EVERY DAY at wally world buying anything brass colored and then combine that with every online seller out of primers, lead, reloaders, brass etc etc. There is something much more sinister than the last go around 4 years ago. It isn't 5 times worse or 50, it's 10000x times worse.
So smarty pants what's your prediction out another 30 day?. $2.00/round .223? Boxes of 500 .22 going for $100? If the parabolic move continues, that's exactly where we will be and TODAYS PANIC PRICES WILL SEEM LIKE CHILDS PLAY, because I can tell you, 30 days ago NO ONE predicted a run on .22. Quoted:
OP just wake up out of a coma like in The Walking Dead or something? ![]() |

Quoted: Quoted: No, people are preparing to profit. It feels to me like people preparing for war. The fact that people are buying everything out for absolutely absurd prices tidbit seems to go against that. For some reason, I seem to remember "buy low, sell high" in order to make profit not "buy products for 500% their regular cost and then hang onto them." ![]() Obviously there are the people selling to make a couple bucks, but there are even more people buying to be prepared for whatever might come around the bend. |

snip You are dead on. The 94 ban CREATED the AR culture because of all the diverse rifles made to circumvent the rules. I always thought that our returning solders wanting a familiar platform was more of a factor than the 94 ban. My earlier question was more about the "preparing for war comment". I was around for the '08 shortages, and just getting into reloading. So I remember those shortages. I just don't see much of a difference as far as shortages go. I have drawn my line in the sand as have many others here. What makes you guys think that that's what the American people are preparing for? A couple of my family members have also drawn there line in the sand. One of them is my aunts sister. All 120lbs of her will stop anyone trying to take her guns. I have a couple other family members that don't think anyone needs a 30rnd mag. One of them is my dad, A Vietnam veteran, and the other is a brother in law that served in Desert Storm. Both are fuds, and neither would stand up to a tyrannical govt. Next time I see them I'll ask how they feel about giving up their hunting rifles. |

2008 ( actually 2004 ) should have been a wake up call to everyone. That was the time to quit being a grasshopper and join the ants. I have warned tons of friends and family. A really good friend of mine back in 2004 I was trying to get him to buy an AR. At the time he said he'll wait till the prices get better. Then in 2006 it was" I don't need one right now I have fun shooting yours ". Then in 2008 " I'll wait till the demand slows down and build an AR " but he put that off too. About the 1st of this year he called panicking that he's been to every gun store in town and no one has ARs in stock. He bought a beat to shit used DPMS for $2200 that less than 3 months ago was a $500 rifle. Now he has 1 mag that he paid $100 for and zero ammo. So I have zero sympathy for anyone who dragged their ass putting it off for another time. |
