I friend of mine has asked me to run a port scan on his computer, but I have no freakin clue how.  Neither does he.  Can somebody tell me how to do it?

Go to this web address and run the Shields Up option. It will scan your ports real time and give you a report.

See, I don't want to scan my own, I want to scan a friends.  He's given me an IP range and a specific port. (ex. "x.x.(2-128).x:2500")

That's basically the format I was told, but I don't know where I'd type that (oh, and I know the values for x, I'm just not gonna post them).

Neither of us know how to do it this way, tho.

And no, I'm not trying to hack anybody.

If you know someone with a copy of NMAP, they will be able to do it.  It's free software, fairly easy to use, and very good for port scans and other security scans.
