I saw another thread with a member dyeing their magpul furniture with pearl gray rit die, and i really liked it so i gave it a shot.

Here are all the parts before dyeing.

And here is after dyeing.

For comparison, from left to right: Black, OD Green, "Stealth Gray", FDE

Once I get my order from PSA and White Oak I'll be ready to build it and I'll probably make a build thread in the build it yourself section.

What do ya think??

EDIT: Small write up.
Disclaimer: Im not responsible for what you do ect......

I used this dye, i put in slightly less than the whole package (they only make powder, not liquid dye) and this much water (pictured is how much is left from the gallon).
mix the dye and water to just before boiling (should be steaming but NOT bubbling)

I broke everything down into:
Pmag: 3 parts
Stock: 2 parts
hand guards: 2 parts
MBUS: 4 parts
MAID grip: 4 parts
and trigger guard

For prepping just make sure everything is clean, i rinsed everything with water before i started.

Before you start make sure your largest item will fit in your pot (hand guard or stock)

For "dipping tools" i broke apart a metal hanger into 2 different sizes.

I routed the smaller one thru the holes on the smaller pieces, and the larger hanger part for the larger pieces.

Once the water/dye mix is steaming just dip your part.

once it is the color you want, hold it over the sink and rinse it with water again to get all the dye off so you don't get dark spots in the corners where the water is pooling.

I wouldn't leave it in for more than 5 - 10 seconds at a time, If you leave it in too long it will turn black, i made that mistake with a Pmag.

From left to right:
OD Green, Black, FDE that was left in too long, "Stealth Gray", FDE

the flash makes it look lighter, but in person you cant tell it apart from the black one.

Also, rubber will not dye!!
I love the Ranger Plates, and in my hurry to dye them i forgot they have rubber. This is what happened:

I think that the ladder rail covers are the same thing and wont take color (just speculation, i don't own any)

EDIT 2-2-13 moar pics

It seams in neutral light the magpul stuff seam gray, but in florescent light it has a hint of blue, and in the grass it has a hint of foliage.

Im a horrible photographer but you get the idea.

I did a few of my FDE Pmags in the RIT pearl grey. They didn't come out quite as dark as yours. But pretty close.

I got the water/dye to almost boiling and dipped, brought it out of the dye and dipped again every 4 or 5 seconds till I got close. Then dipped one last time.

Been thinking of getting a FDE set of furniture for my midlength rifle and doing it. My midlength wears black furniture now. An A2 would look kick ass.

Thank you everyone!

I'll do a small write up right now. but it was pretty easy it only took about 40 min total.

I think the UDE will take a color better since it is slightly lighter than FDE, but i didnt want to spend the time waiting to get a set of UDE.

What's the purpose of having grey colored gear???  Can you take some various pictures of the mags in various locations & light to show the advantages of why you'd choose grey over other colors??

It looks nice.  I'm just curious as to if it's advantageous.
