This is something that happened several years ago, and was wondering if it was usual practice, or a bit out of bounds.
A female friend was in the hospital for something (her first day after minor surgery),, and I was visiting, when a Nurse, or whoever the person is that washes people in bed. 'He' came in, put his stuff down, and just raised her grown up above her cooch and started washing her legs. I am not sure if he thought I was her hubby or what, but she was a bit red in the face I think... I'm not sure he washed that far up, so not sure why he did it without asking or telling her what he was going to do, especially with a guy in the room. So is it common to do this in this manner? Do I need to get a job as a Nurse? AND NO, I didn't stare,,, I turned around... |

Male / Female it does not matter, they should be talking to you about what they are about to do.
If minor why did friend need washing? I spent a week in the hospital before, then girlfirend now wife washed me the first time, sponge bath type washing. Then after that I was able to take a shower, and the nurse did help me dry off my back, she changed the sheets while I showered, incase I fell, she said she had to be in the room. and then she stuffed new Iodorform (sp) gauze into the hole in my abdomen. |

You sure you ain't my twin brother??? That is exactly the same as me (except I was six weeks, then another time for five weeks, ten another time for five weeks, and then three weeks)... Otherwise it's exactly the same. I didn't mine the female nurses, but no man was going to raise my gown.

I spent alot of time a while back in a few hospitals. It was offered, I said to leave the wipe thingys and I'd take care of it. At least that's kinda how I remember it but I might be wrong. I was really high at the time so things a little fuzzy around the edges.
I do know that every time a nurse or aide or even the housekeeping staff came in they communicated everything they were doing even if they were there on the routine stab and grab. Seems out of line to not make any communication. |
| Sounds like it was a PCT, or nurses assistant, nurses don't wash people. The PCT probably figured you were the husband, this is out of line IMO and she should have called patient affairs, probably got the idiot canned. They should ask every one to leave the room before any cleaning of that type. If the patient says it's okay to stay, then that's different. |

I know many, many RNs that would tell you otherwise. In fact I know a few that prefer to do it themselves as they can do their assessment at the same time. Regardless of what that guy's job title was, his actions were fucked up. |
