I am looking at the 2011 crime report and it doesnt match up with all of the images and facts I am seeing cited here and on Facebook. For example that hands and feet or hammers kill more people than guns doesnt seem to be true. It looks like guns kill 15 times as many people every year than hands and feet. Am I not seeing all of the data?

The point is that banning "assault weapons" will do nothing to prevent crime, as less than 1% of murders are committed with rifles. ETA: Beaten by 32 seconds! |

Total gun deaths 8583 3rd row down Rifle deaths 323 5th row down Blunt objects, hammers, ball bats and that stuff 496 10th row down Hands and feet type deaths 720 11th row down Ah, so it only worked with Rifles and Shotguns and maybe not even then because there is like 1700 cases where the firearm type is not reported. |

WTF is a gun death? Does suicide count? Someone shooting an intruder? Does cops shooting turds count? Ambiguous term is ambiguous Cops shooting dogs? ![]() The report segregates justifiable homicide by private citizens and law enforcement. normal people kill about 260 assholes per year. |

Take a look at table 20
Notice that Alabama (301) and Florida (984) are missing, and Illinois drastically under-reported (721) it's total of murders. |

It's an argument made to point out how stupid it is to ban "assault rifles" because other things are use far more times a year to kill people in the US. It's not about guns in general, just the subset that the AR15 belongs to. |

So basically out of ~15k murders ~10k are with guns and ~5k are knives, blunt objects, hands, poison, fire, asphyxiation, drowning , etc And about 400 of them are with rifles... even less with "assault rifles." That's the whole point of the argument. Day to day objects are used to kill FAR more people a year than "assault rifles" in this country. |

All for the best as I am now better educated |

Not more often than all guns. |
I'll go sit in the corner now..........
