Sitting at the laundromat cursing that pos washer that has broken more times than I cared for. This is the second motor that has died. Any suggestions for new washers that are decent and last? Need a dryer too... I have up on that MFer a year ago and just hang clothes on the line. I remember why I hate that too. I hate laundry. FML.

| Are you sure it's the motor and not just the motor coupling? Never had a motor go out but iv'e replaced the coupling on afew machines for myself and friends. $6 part and maybe 20-30 minutes of time. There's a pretty good video on Youtube if that is the issue. The washer would hum but not spin if that were the case. |

This...check the coupler. |

Either fix it yourself or look for a used top loader. I bought a used (repaired) Kenmore top loader from a local repair guy three years ago for $150 and it works great. Do NOT buy a front loader. I have fixed it more times than I wanted to. I fix everything myself. This was a set of machines that were sold as being good, later found maytag or whatever it is, did not make it themselves and just stuck their name on it. Thing dances across the floor so much it pisses off the GSD on the right of my avatar. He keeps a close eye on it and goes full on gonna fuck shit up mode if it moves at him. |

OK I can see y'all aren't understanding this. I'm not wasting one more dime on this piece of shit. I have replaced just about everything on it at one point or another. It's just not worth it to keep fixing it. I already could have bought another washer. I just kept fixing this one because that is a cheaper route. At some point though, I have to say no more and find something else.
This machine is dead, the motor is dead. It has power, but does not work. There is no hum, it's not the coupler. I trust a voltmeter over a youtube video. It's the motor, again. It's a cheap piece of crap that never should have been put on the market, multiple complaints on this thing about many issues. I dealt with it because it's what I have. I will be selling the only AR I have left in a few days to pay for a new washer, dryer, and some vehicle work. I don't want to, but I have had enough and need to get some shit fixed and taken care of that is more important that a gun. I will buy another one when all this BS blows over. Also, yes if you can't figure out how to fix a machine as simple as a washer, you need to turn in your man card. If you can't figure out how a voltmeter works, you were never issued a man card.

Do NOT buy a front loader. This. I love the front loader concept, but the reliability seems to be lacking. I don't really need a front-load for anything but bulky comforters, and it's easy and cheap enough to buy a bunch and rotate them out and go to the dreaded Section 8 laundromat once every couple of months. I've owned three top-load washers in the last thirty years - two were used, reconditioned units that I paid $150 for and which lasted ten years each, and I'm going on ten years with the new Kirkland model I got for $350 at Costco. |

Same thing happened to me with my GE. After a bunch of research, I got a LG HE toploader for $700. It was an adjustment for my wife but she loves it.
Others will say stay away from LG/Samsung, but I love it...not to mention it has a 10 year warranty on the motor (direct drive btw). Those same people will recommend you buy a machine that will have the fewest options on it that you can still get by with. I can see where they are coming from but I still recommended the LG. |
| If tub fill and pump out (spin) still work but no tub / agitator action there is a high probability that it is the motor-transmission coupling. The coupling is designed to fail first to protect the transmission. I have replaced 3 couplings on two washers over the years. |

I've banned the purchase of all GE products after having the built-in microwave die at two year of very little use, the side-by-side freezer have a two leaks (ice maker and water filter) and the automatic ice-through-the-door fail, and my washing machine die (cracked tub!) after three years.
Fuck them. |
It's not dead till the front falls off! ![]() fuck it, can't make the youtube embed work right. Wasn't the right video anyway. Had a front-load washer that went bad. The yoke on the back of the drum broke away - good luck welding it back up and keeping it balanced, and a new drum/yoke assembly would have cost as much or more than a brand new machine! |
Oh hell the front fell off years ago... It was put back together with mechanics wire. . The screws came out after it danced across the floor to block the door into the house. Happened a lot, the first time I came home and opened the door to have it slam back into my face when that happened. I open the doors and check to see if they open all the way before trying to walk through... That really pissed me off... DaFuq is wrong with my door??!?? Washer was about 8" from it facing it. SOB! Looked like this for few days -> |

Fuck them. I'm with you brother. We purchased a house with all new GE appliances. Washer died and the fridge/freezer has been nothing but trouble. Never again. |
