wonder if anyone can answer this question on child support

Can a lump sum be paid instead of monthly payments to settle the issue of Child support?

Massachusetts allows it. Saves on interest and penalties

Its all gonna depend on the court....and the child support agency.  if your ex is ok with it, and the agency is ok with it, its possible.  but i have never heard of a child support agency being ok with it

Only if you're behind.

I would imagine that this is one of those where each state...and county is different.

I pay my ex directly. Clerk told us to not bother them if we can handle it ourselves.

I'm actually surprised that no bank offers an Annuity for these types of situations.  Pay up front, and the guardian gets $xx/mo until the child turns 18.

You might see more states allow it, because it actually is safer for the kid, the bank can't get hit by a truck tomorrow.

But most states don't allow it. Because, lets face it, too many people would blow all the money, and the kid would be left hanging. (Which is what happens anyway, but...)

Ask your attorney.

It will vary from state to state.

I'd bet it could and would be modified if your earnings increased over the years. In the end, she'd get a lump sum AND support.
