Is there a single user on this site or the entire internet that uses 56k?  Or has in the last, say 5 years?  If so I would like to hear from you.  I will check back in 2 days when this page loads for you.

When I was stationed in Italy several years ago, the apartment I lived in was in this one tiny area of the town that did not get DSL so I was stuck with dial-up.  The funny part was that I was able to pick up a few people's WiFi signal if I stood in one particular spot.

I had a friend that was a hillbilly hermit up in PA.

He died last year, but up until then, he used dial-up WebTV. He liked it and didn't want to have to learn how to use a computer.

He had to buy a used WebTV box when his went out because the company had quit making them years before.

Serious,,,,
The phone company offers what they call "high speed internet"
My neighbor has it, but my dialup is faster, for half the price.

I have 56k out on the ranch.  DSL in town.  99% of the time I'm online it's 56k since I usually only go to the house in town to pick up my mail.

No, but the signal bouncing from a satellite dish in England, through their shitty weather, and back down through the cloud of shit-dust here makes for slow interwebs too often.

2-3G on a cellular connection. It sucks.

There is nothing else available. Period. Phone lines are still analog with MECHANICAL switching FFS.

Satellite is out. Waay too expensive, and too many trees would have to come down.

Obama paid for cellular Broadband provider to set up service to the local FSA in town, but no dice out here in the woods, where all 7 of us taxpayers live.

I figure with the number of Illegals wintering over in ratty assed rentals, and signing up all 87 of thier damn kids for all the free shit, sooner or later, they will expand the access to Broadband.

My old 3G was 28.8 on a great day.

My 4G on the other hand. Much better.

Very soon companies like AT&T and Verizon will be selling internet access straight from the cell tower. With speeds faster than DSL.

The beauty of it is that no cable needed no phone line other than a cell contract and you can dump your land line phone service just buy a wireless modem and hook up to the nearest 4G LTE tower. And eventually it will do away with cable TV.

with the major carriers upgrading the back haul to their cell location in far out locations and buying up to 1G of throughput  they can offer fast speed to bubba in the trailer in the woods of West Virgina.

This I know, we are making a killing selling 150Mgs to Verizon T-Mobile and AT&T through our fiber optic network. They are buying 150Mg now but pretty soon they will be looking to buy 1G of service.

There's still a few. My dad being one of them. Just absolutely refuses to change. DSL is even cheaper now than AOL dialup but I can't convince him to upgrade. He uses the internet quite a lot. just likes to sit and wait I guess.
