Damn.
According to reports, that amendment says the government cannot collect "any information relating to the lawful ownership or possession of a firearm or ammunition."
CNN is calling it "a gift to the nation's powerful gun lobby." And according to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), that's exactly right. He says he added the provision in order to keep the NRA from getting involved in the legislative fight over Obamacare, which was so ubiquitous in 2010. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/01/09/Backfire-Obamacare-Forbids-Gun-and-Ammo-Registration |

The other problem is that if the fed can make a certain class of firearms covered under the NFA, then it probably trumps that obamacare provision. Otherwise obamacare would be cause to have SBR/supressors without all the registration as well. Unfortunately that provision also doesn't cover hi-cap mags or any accessory that isn't considered a firearm or ammunition.
But it's at least *something*. |

I just searched the actual law for this section. It specifically prohibits collecting gun info only in relation to powers granted by this law.
It's not a blanket ban on collecting the info. Just that no part of Obamacare can be construed as allowing or requiring such a registry. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
