Anyone bought a gun and done a background check in the last day or two? How long is the check taking these days?

Mine was 17 minutes from the time the call was placed until the approval number was given.

The NICS checks I've run this week have been fairly quick...but I've been telling guys to come in early so they aren't waiting forever

Friday: about 90 seconds from the time the guy dialed at 0900.

I have a carry license, there is no phone call to make. i hand them my DL and CP and fill out the paperwork. pay the man and leave with my gun. Just did this on December 29th.

We used to be able to do that in NYS. No more, thanks to former Gov Spitzer

Took Virginia about a half hour for the purchaze i made Monday, if that helps you any.

If you're on the east coast do it before 11 a.m. Once the west coast shops open it gets a lot longer.

It took about 20 minutes Sunday around 5pm for mine to go through.

So far this week, all our buyers got them within a minute or so.

Two weeks ago? "We're sorry, due to the high call volume blah blah blah...... CLICK!" and it would hang up.

When we DID finally get through, "Number of checks?" and I'd reply with a smile, "46"

Instant with the BATFE software and an internet connected computer.

No problem. Took just a few seconds to get a person. I got the 'further review' shot in the stomach. Call was transferred and immediately picked up.

That's much better than a few weeks back where it took over 2 hours to reach a NICS examiner.

Whenever they call in for me they have to speak to a human (I have no idea why). I haven't bought a gun this month, so I guess I will find out shorty how long that will add to any delay I experience.

Last month took about 20 minutes on hold to get a human.
