Anyone ever eat goat? Picked up a 2 pound bag yesterday on a whim and was thinking about throwing it in the crock pot tomorrow beef stew style. Any other recipe recommendations? It's certified Halal and from Australia in case you're wondering.

I've never been a fan of mutton, let alone goat.

Make a curry...

Look for a Birria recipe.

Only the ones I raised.  Some of the best red meat I've ever had.  i used them to eat down grass and weeds around the acreage.  I also fed them good alfalfa and good clean water.  I ate one of the milkers and it smelled like granola while cooking it.  Out standing meat.  The # 1 red meat eaten on planet Earth, and has been for at least 6k years.

Goat is good.  Never had wild goat.  I have heard it is good.

What cut did you get?

Mexicans make wonderful everything with goat, cabrito (young goat) is really very good.

I agree that stewing, like a beef stew, might be best if you aren't sure what you have age-wise. It can be very strong tasting the older the goat.

Goat is good and easy to screw up if you cook it too fast.

I ate a lot of goat in Uganda and around here it can always be had in Jamaican restaurants.
The Ugandans stewed it up with peppers and tomatoes.

This. I always have 8-10 goats. Butcher a couple goats and one beef a year. I treat the goat meat just like beef when cooking. Everybody I feed it to loves it. Way better than lamb. Not as dry as venison. Just as good as beef in my opinion.

Find yourself an old Mexican lady, she will make you something tasty

I'd suggest making curry with it.

Ugandan goat was some of the best I've had; oddly enough the best turkey I had was also in Uganda.

I had some in Iraq.

It wasn't good, but it was fresh meat for a change.

I like goat  it is better than mutton.

cook it slow it takes smoke well be sure to cook the ribs and forget the bony tail.

I like to cook it in a crock pot with lots of strong thai spices or Jamaican jerk rub

start a broth with the bones, then add coconut milk, thai curry, a little lime juice,

I may have to switch to something like this, sounds yummier than stew.

There and here ('stan)...consumed to be polite.

It is all I can do to choke down mutton after seeing those gigantic, hanging, flapping sheep assess.

Ok, Dtux's list of how to prepare goat:

Purchase goat

Go to Mexican friend's grandparent's house

Announce "tengo una cabra"

Give goat/goat meat to Abuela Gema

???

Eat glorious dinner

I like to trim the meat off the bone, lightly marinate it in Italian dressing and grill it to about medium. Very tasty with a glass of hearty Malbec wine.

Try finding a recipe for curry? It's one of the things that tastes really good with lamb/goat, especially over jasmine rice.

I've had Filipino roast goat and goat stew (Kaldareta Kambing).  There is also a dish called papaitan.  I won't tell you what goes in it, but it can be good if you like bitter stuff.  Not my favorite, but I'm not going to turn my nose up at it..  Also, there is a ceviche-like dish called kinilaw kambing that is made from raw goat.  Not bad, especially with a few Mig-12s in ya!

I've had goat curry at the local Indian place. It wasn't amazing but it was one of the only foods there that I could tell what it was.

Can't even eat goats cheese without gagging.

I've had it curried and the dish was fine.  The curry overpowered the flavor of the meat so I can't really say what I think about the flavor of goat.

This is how I had it.  Ugandan guy I used to work with brought me in some homemade goat stew one day to try it since I'd never eaten goat.  Pretty good.

Deer hunting outside Del Rio, the Mexicans helping at the camp suggested we shoot some wild goats. I had an M1 with lots of clips in the Land Rover. 3 of us came up on a herd of goats on the face of a cliff. Goat massacre ensued. We had the back, top and hood of the Rover covered with goats. The camp guys cooked one for us and fed Villa Cuna for the next few weeks with the rest.

Scratch margaritas and cabrito ain't bad

Yes, one day we returned to the Krypsona from the beach. Our bodies browned by the sun. And the locals had killed and roasted a goat and --

Roger: We filled our bellies with goat meat.

Virginia: Our hands greasy.

Walter: Mouths glistening.

Virginia: Yes, and --

Roger: Once again, our bodies sluggish with goat meat.

I raise goats for meat. I kill them at less than a year old. I love it! very good meat.  Cook it just like any beef.
