I did.
This is the bullshit canned response I got back: Dear Mr. Andrasik:
Thank you for your letter regarding the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut. I appreciate your taking the time to write, and I value your opinion. The horrific tragedy and the innocent loss of life that occurred on December 14, in Newtown, Connecticut is heartbreaking. As a father and grandfather, my thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends who are mourning the loss of their loved ones. Our nation grieves with them. Law enforcement is working aggressively to determine what exactly led this obviously mentally ill person to commit such an act. Despite the death of the alleged murderer, I understand the Newtown Police and the FBI are thoroughly investigating this case as if it would go to court so that we may learn from this tragedy. As a society, we must be willing to move beyond the obvious question to really take a hard look at why these senseless acts of violence continue to play out in towns across America. It’s time to have an honest discussion about the culture of violence in America and more specifically, the root cause of this and other types of violence: mental illness. We will have a debate over gun control, however, law enforcement must do its work so that the public is informed, and we can determine appropriate and implementable solutions to prevent future acts of violence by disturbed individuals. Again thank you for taking the time to contact me. If you would like more information on issues before the Senate, please visit my website at http://roberts.senate.gov. ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW to CONTACT WHO YOU NEED TO:
THESE TWO MEN HOLD MORE STOPPING POWER THAN ANY OTHER PERSON OR GROUP OF PEOPLE: Speaker Of The House John Boehner http://www.speaker.gov/contact Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid http://www.reid.senate.gov/contact/index.cfm They can just table anything. They are the first line of defense. Do not ignore them. NRA 'find your reps' link with direct links to contact each individual one at federal and state level: http://www.nraila.org/get-involved-locally/grassroots/write-your-reps.aspx My boilerplate letter: Dear_________________, As a registered active voter, and as a responsible gun owner and resident of ___________, I am writing to voice my opposition to any new gun controls in the wake of the recent high-profile shootings that seem to be sweeping the media. Blaming and demonizing the tool that a madman uses may be what our emotions tell us to do in such circumstances, but we cannot legislate away the rights of good people based on an emotional knee-jerk response to a tragedy. If we continue to let the bill of rights and integrity of the 2nd amendment be watered down, every person that has died to make our country free has died in vain. I sleep much more soundly at night knowing I have more than seven or ten rounds next to me to defend me in case someone breaks in; I walk more assuredly knowing that I have taken the responsibility to be a responsible permit holder and can defend myself and loved ones if need be; I live by the rule that the gun is only as good or evil as the hand holding it, and my hand is good. I support my right to myself or my friends, if they choose, to have a modern semiautomatic sporting rifle with whatever magazine they may choose, as they and I are good, responsible people and shouldn't be punished for the misdeeds of crazy people. I will also vote accordingly, when the time comes. Those that support my rights will get my vote again; Those that oppose, will not. I leave you with a direct quote from former Democratic President Bill Clinton, regarding his 1994 Assault Weapons Ban: "On November 8, we got the living daylights beat out of us, losing eight Senate races and fifty-four House seats, the largest defeat for our party since 1946....The NRA had a great night. They beat both Speaker Tom Foley and Jack Brooks, two of the ablest members of Congress, who had warned me this would happen. Foley was the first Speaker to be defeated in more than a century. Jack Brooks had supported the NRA for years and had led the fight against the assault weapons ban in the House, but as chairman of the Judiciary Committee he had voted for the overall crime bill even after the ban was put into it. The NRA was an unforgiving master: one strike and you're out. The gun lobby claimed to have defeated nineteen of the twenty-four members on its hit list. They did at least that much damage...." Heed the words of history, please. Sincerely, __________________________ |

I have written everyone today.
I even wrote Feinstein a cordial, although oppositional, letter. I have been adding the fact that this Bill will immediately take an extremely large number of our citizenry and make it criminal, merely because of non-compliance with an unjust law. I added that the Military has learned never to given an order which will not be followed. I explained that our Congress should take their lead. |
